First time purchase

Good evening all

I’m after a little advice for a potential purchase. I have been looking for an Omega Seamaster from around my birth year, 1961, for sometime. Not particularly looking for anything collector grade but would like something presentable and wearable.

I have been looking on eBay and a few internet sites and today come across this watch.

It looks like it’s been polished and possibly restored but is it a fair price?

I would not recommend that watch if you would like to have a watch that is in good condition. The dial is very poorly repainted and the case is badly over-polished. Given the condition, the price is at least 4x too high, it's a joke. You should be able to get a nice example for less than half the price.

The dial is the kind of thing that if you rarely look at it, it is ok. The more you look, or see other Omegas, the more you would be bothered. It is good to not limit yourself to "collector grade," but this is probably not worth it at any price.

I wouldn’t buy anything from that company. Their descriptions are often economical with the truth and the condition of some of the watches leaves a lot to be desired, especially considering the asking prices.

I wouldn’t pay £350 for that watch

There are also some pretty bad stories about that seller in previous threads. About him being rude and unwilling to stand behind his watches, etc.

Don't waste your time searching ebay on your own without any knowledge and posting one bad watch after another-

1. Study this:

2. Follow this- vetted ebay listings by our mods:

3. Look here for good watches at fair prices from OF collector members- you can contact sellers by DM (just click on the avatar and send msg):

Stick around you will learn, and feel free to ask questions before buying for best results! Welcome to OF

The smartest thing you've done this year.

The watch is ludicrously priced for a highly polished example with a poor redial.

Follow the advice above and take your time.
