·Hi OF,
Always been intrigued by vintage Omegas and decided recently I'd add my first when the right piece comes up. The 60's Seamasters with the dauphine hands and 5xx caliber movements really stand out to me, the 166.010 being at the top of my list. Also wouldn't mind something in solid gold or gold capped as it matches more of my formal jewelry.
After lurking the forums and marketplaces for one about a month now, this example came up in what appears to be nice condition but upon inspection raised a few questions as to its originality. Pics attached below.
My questions to the experts:
1) Is this a redial? To my untrained beginner eye something about the boxiness of the U in the AUTOMATIC is something I haven't noticed on others of this reference
2) Being advertised as 14k gold filled, however case back and surface behind lugs appears to be SS like a gold capped. Could this be an error on the seller's part or can factory gold filled of this reference have this two tone finish?
3) (Maybe previous question answers this) Is the case back original? The finish on the surface and beneath the Seamaster logo as well as the way 166.010 is stamped looks different than any examples I have seen in my research thus far.
If you have other opinions outside of those points on the watch itself I'd be grateful for your feedback. Looking forward to learning more about this reference and similar as I continue my search for the right watch.
-Thanks
