Hello, Longtime lurker and new member. This is a great forum! I had a blunder with my Diver 300 yesterday. How would you handle? Let it ride? Replace bezel when serviced? Buff with a cape cod and “fuggetaboutit?”
Avoid Cape cod or any other form of polishing, that will soften the edges and look horrible. Either let it ride or get the bezel replaced (that will be expensive!). I would let it ride for now but I certainly wouldn't be happy about it, that one is tough to ignore. If it was me I'd try and live with it for a few years and have it replaced at service. Welcome to the forum btw, great watch!
Ouch ! ... From past experience it all depends on how you feel about living with it. You could try polishing it but it looks like a serious gouge in the bezel. Probably professional help need and replacement inevitable. Good luck with it !
Welcome to the forum and congrats on the great acquisition - the white dial SMP is really tempting. My recommendation would be to leave it as is but this depends on how you feel about it. Personally I would never polish any of my watches. I like seeing my own scratches ; ) Don't remember where exactly but I saw a nice quote once: "A dive watch without any battle scars is a clear sign of a boring life" : ) You can always have it replaced by OMEGA, I have no idea about the cost though. As I said before, depends on how you feel about it. Leave it for a couple of days and if it bothers you that much still, go for a replacement. P.S I would stay away from trying to polish it. Might make it even worse...
Took me ages to see what you were worried about. If it’s that scratch at the top of the bezel, it’s hardly noticeable. I wouldn’t worry about it if you intend to keep it and wear it.
Thank you for your thoughtful responses. IMO, it isn’t that noticeable or deep. When the light hits it you notice. FWIW, it happened underwater in its natural habitat!?
Welcome to the forum! I wouldn't be too worried about it. I'm sure it'd be hard not to notice in the start but it's a tool watch and you're using it as one!
Ouch! The first one always hurts the most. I would leave it to be honest as there will be more battle scars (perhaps not as severe as that one). If required, replace bezel when selling. If it’s a keeper, then keep adding the battle scars
Great watch. A worthy scar. I would not worry about it right now, it doesn't lool particularly deep. As many before me , I would not recommend nay polishing/buffing. Welcome to the forum
Got any scars from when you fell over as a kid or anything like that? Same thing with the watch - leave it untouched and keep adding to the story
This. There is only one way to keep your watch pristine, and if you're going to take that route, why bother owning one?
On my older Seamaster, that bezel edge is brushed, not polished, so definitely don't use a cape cod on it. If you want to take down any sharp burs, you can tape things up and only hit that isolated area with a green scotch brite for a couple of passes, but I wouldn't try chasing perfection, just take down the edge a little.
How about having it laser welded and refinished. I’d expect it to be cheaper than a replacement bezel.
