Some Speedies are better on braclett, but imho the fois should be on vintage leather…

I never liked the strap look for the FOIS. I find the 19 taper to 15 made the strap look too dainty for me. I don't mind the taper on a bracelet but I prefer less taper on straps.

Thanks for all the info - you’ve covered everything I needed to know. The Uncle Seiko SELs just look too good with the way they fit the lug profile not to use them. If all it takes for it to work is filing the inner edges of the end links a few tenths of a millimetre and slightly thinner spring bars, that’s completely manageable.

I realise the Forstner end links are more “plug and play” but I’ve used them before and can’t stand them - the way they prematurely turn down changes the entire look and feel of the watch, and not in a good way.

My only obstacle now is deciding if I am willing to spend that amount on a bracelet considering I already have the Uncle Seiko flatlink with Omega clasp and I’m pretty happy. Part of me really like the “authenticity” of the thinner more flexible bracelet with vintage style friction clasp - it is certainly extremely comfortable.

my current setup:

My only other concern is getting a good fit, given the 321 bracelet only has one adjustment hole on the clasp and I believe no half links?

To clarify, the Ed White bracelet works on the FOIS with the US or Forstner end-links? Is this accurate?

must not be the original one, i like vintage straps. taper comes if you like to use original buckle…

It’s definitely 16mm at the buckle so 19 to 16. Suits me, but I could see some people preferring 20 to 18.

Loving the fois on the Ed white bracelet!
Did that require an end link swap? And do you have the part number for the bracelet?

edit: sorry, ignore me. I’ve read back up the thread now.

I agree. I have mine on the original strap. I think straight lug speedmasters look better on leather. However, I'm sure there are some combinations (yet to come) on the FOIS that will convince me otherwise.

Yes, it's 19 to 16. I thought it was 19 to 15 originally. Either way, I still prefer the 20 to 18 on straps. I just think the 16 at the end is too dainty.

Hi guys

Also just received my 321 bracelet.

Below are some photos of it using the Forstner end links. I also own the Uncle Seiko solid end links but as someone mentioned on here, the fit is extremely tight. I couldn't be bothered buying a file so didnt fit it on the Uncle Seiko. Quite happy with the Forstner end links.

OK, now I'm done.
I have reworked/adjusted the US SELs in order to accept the OEM springbars.
I feel much better now. The Omega 2206 springbars are extremely high quality.
Here's my CK2998 with the 321 bracelet, and adjusted US SELs.

Looks great! 👍
What did you do to make the Omega springbars work with the US SEL?
Have the same setup on mine, but with thinner 3rd party 1.5mm springbars.

Well, I have to tell you it is a bit of work, took me a good couple of hours but I’m happy I’ve done it.

The 1.5mm 3rd party springbars have a 0.8mm tip. The exposed spring loaded telescopic parts are longer and have more wiggle than the Omega equivalents. So there is quite a bit of slack in the whole midlink-endlink-lugholes assembly to make it all fit effortlessly.

The Omega 2206 springbars that came with the bracelet are 1.8mm with a 0.9mm tip and tighter tolerances all around.

When you switch for a “standard” 3rd party springbar (these are usually 1.78mm) the next problem appears: the midlink now rubs the top of the endlink and will not rotate. So the top of the endlink, internal side, needs to be filed down a bit to allow the midlink to rotate freely.

This was enough in my case to use the US SELs with the standard 1.78mm 3rd party springbar that came with the Forstner.

When I tried the Omega springbar the tips did not quite align with the lug holes, they are about a tenth mm towards the outside, and there’s no wiggle to play with. To make it fit you need to remove material from the SEL on the curved surface that goes against the case, to get the holes of the SEL closer to the case.

This is challenging to do freehand, but rather easily done using a jig I made that is a sanding cilinder of about 39mm diameter that I attach to a drill press. Little touches (burnt fingers) and trial and error until the endlinks with the OEM springbar just click in place.
Probably not for the average DIY-er, but of you’re handy and have access to a basic tool shop, it’s perfectly doable.

Do you have a web link for the springbars that worked?

You mean the thin ones ? These can be bought from generic watch spares shops. Do a web search for 19mm 1.5mm springbars and you should find something that works for you.

Ah, ok--thank you. I actually have a Forstner braclet on my CK2998 Pulsometer right now. I have a spare Ed White bracelet on the way and am torn about putting it on the FOIS or CK2998. Probably will go with the FOIS.

It's probably a bit early, but does anyone have any info / indication whether the (excellent) bracelet from the new-for-2022 '57 Speedmaster would fit the FOIS (with an endlink swap most likely)? And/or the part number for that bracelet?
