Thought this was a pretty good deal for $6,400 ... until the seller canceled the sale. 🤦

That one has had a handful of different eBay sales, clearly the seller has never been happy with the result. Were you the high bidder?

Yes, I won the auction. And I'm aware of the history, I followed a couple of other auctions and the BIN listing. No harm in trying, you never really know why a given eBay sale might have fallen through.

Isn't this piece offered by Mr. Paperclip?

No, although it's possible the seller bought it from him and was using an old photo. In fact there was another thread about this and I think someone actually pulled up the old listing from that dealer.

This is from his listing (I am in the US, BTW):

"If you are curious as to why this watch is being relisted... it's because previous winners were from foreign countries that I stated I will not sell to. US/GREAT BRITAIN/JAPAN/HONG KONG ONLY"

Did you leave him a feedback?

The sale was canceled and there is no option to leave feedback. In any case, he's only hurting himself. This is at least the third time he has put it up for auction, and each time the winning bid has been smaller. The first time, the auction ended at about $9,500. Now he is listing it BIN for $9k.

Did he say why the sale was cancelled? After relisting so many times I'd think he would want to get the watch sold before it attracts even fewer bidders.

I wouldn't buy from a seller like that to be honest. Doesn't seem to be a man of his word.

He gave me a story.

LOL. Not a credible story, so I didn't think it was worth repeating. He claimed the watch was sold on another platform for $9k (but too late to cancel the auction) and that the funds would be transferred to him the following day. However, he was interested in any offer I wanted to make over $9k.

I guess that buyer ended up being a flake. This seller really has bad luck. 🙄

Is that even allowed under eBay's policy? Seems once an auction runs its course the seller is obligated to the results of that auction unless there's a really compelling reason. I wouldn't think eBay would allow this from a seller on their platform.

Obviously it's not allowed to cancel the results of an auction and the re-list, but in practice, it's pretty hard to force the seller to ship an item. eBay could sanction him, I suppose.

All these “sales”...I think we can identify the common denominator here...

I hope you reported it. If you have documentation where this seller said they cancelled the sale because the item sold on another platform rather than honor the sale made through eBay, that eBay would certainly be interested in that.

Surely Sub-US$10,000 are going to have a lot of 'service parts' though? A pure 105.003 is always going to cost more than $10k, otherwise wouldn't it be considered a frankenomega?
