WTH!! I go to ship the watch I sold and FedEx says I need to show ID to send a package. They scanned my driver’s license. What next, fingerprinting, retinal scan?
Could be now that there's a pandemic limiting people's movements and activities they are concerned with illegal stuff being shipped rather than meeting up in back alleys?
Actually, it could be that the company is getting ahead of the "contact tracing" train. So if someone in Singapore (or anywhere) gets sick, it would be possible to trace the origin of the parcel that was received, and the person who shipped it.
The very unfriendly person behind the Covid screen said it’s been like this for 2 years. I’m so pissed I feel like going back and using another carrier
They have been requiring this for years if you just walk in. If you have a FedEx account or print your own shipping label at home there is no requirement. it was due to more then a few bombs being sent via FedEx.
Yep, you can create a FedEx account and print labels at home, all you need to do is drop it off (ask for a receipt if you need one). No ID required.
Hm. I have never shown an ID to ship anything at actual FedEx stores or even where they accept ORM-D.
I went back and got my package and refund. Sent it overnight USPS. I’ll never use FedEx again. I’d rather help out the postal service
I were you I'd call corporate and ask them. It might be your local joint doing it and they might be violating company policy.
OK, did some looking and apparently it's a "thing" and has been since 2018 when Austin TX was package-bombed. I do say, however, I have never been asked for ID by anyone at a FedEx Office for shipment.
Anyone wants to see my ID to ship a package... I'm good. My concerns are reliability, speed, and cost.
A local store chain here has mandatory ID check no matter your age. Guys in their 70s get carded. Goddamned annoying when some teenager asks for your ID.
it’s not that they looked at my ID but scanned it (barcode) into their system. There’s a lot of info on your drivers license that FedEx doesn’t need.
All you need for identity theft, in fact, especially if you are "dumb" enough to enter your geneology on ancestry.com.
