It was tradition at apple to have a project coffee mug with the code name for the active project. Sadly over the years most of these have broken. There is a tendancey for the cheap short run mugs to have the handles break off.
I got to design a couple. This is not particularly a favorite as it is a bit wide. So it survived. I think Photon was the code name of the laserwriter 310 which was the lowest end printer apple ever made. The non postscript version was called quark and used the quickdraw bottlenecks internally.
My current favorites are trade show mugs, which are currently in the dishwasher.
I used to help out with the local PBS pledge breaks. When the stations merged, the on camera mugs were auctioned at a science fiction club meeting, so I have a few of those as well. This station KTEH featured a lot of Doctor who and other brit SF like Blakes 7, Sapphire and Steel and Red dwarf. Not to mention other under the radar BBC shows. The much larger SF station always envied the silicon valley dollars, which they wanted for there over inflated budges. KTEH was owned by the county department of education. The money going to the local schools. When the GM passed away the other station took it over and changed to the crap programing what generates high rating numbers, becouse us yanks are stupid.
Sadly we could never get French and Saunders, like Let them Eat Cake, as it was considered unsuitable for American audiences. We were however able to import Black Adder.
On the subject of mugs. The transfer papers used for the decals are the same ones used for toner transfer pc board resist. I did some experiments using this material for watch dials. It is pretty easy in this day and age to get coffee mugs made. There are those who quickly get things trending in order to sell the mugs and T shirts.
