Fast Omega service and a note about the 2500b

My Aqua Terra 2503.80 (39.2 mm, blue dial, 2500b) stopped working a few weeks ago. I'm the second owner, and it's never been touched, so I dropped it off at the OB to get factory service. They estimated eight weeks; it took just over four. It looks and runs great.

I'm posting about this partly because there are some horror stories about Omega service turnaround times on the forums, and maybe this is a sign that things are improving. But I also read a lot about how unreliable and terrible the 2500b movement is supposed to be. Mine was made about 13 years ago. It had never been serviced before, and the case had never even been opened for regulation. It's run perfectly since I acquired it, and did so until the day it stopped.

Not bad for a movement most people try to avoid...

The 2500c seems to be the one with the most complaints, although it may simply because more of them were made. The 2500b is cool, since it has the higher beat rate. The only real issue with mine is that I have to give it a knock to get it going if it has been sitting, but that's no big deal.

Umm isn't that the exact problem that people report? Sounds like it isn't all that cool to be honest.

No, the major problem with the 2500b/2500c is due to residue buildup, which is fixed at service with a couple of procedures.

The "flick to start" situation of the 2500B is an amplitude issue remedied by going to the slower beat rate of the 2500C. I personally think the "flick" is an ok trade off for having the faster beat movement. I actually sought out the 2500B when buying my AT 5 years ago.

I personally never experienced the "flick to start" issue with my 2500b.(To be fair, I rarely wear anything else, so it almost never winds down.)
