I know that these are probably the most faked Tudors out there and there is some argument about the Red ever being manufactured - however, what are your views on this 35mm Ranger?

Fake. Look at the spacing in the letters of RANGER. That would NEVER pass QC. Next, look at that low quality workmanship on the movement.

I think the whole lot of Red Rangers are fakes. I have NEVER seen one that had a proper Rolex / Tudor quality dial.

No red rangers are real. I've all but given up on getting any sort of legit ranger. You may have better luck with Explorer-dial Air Kings..

The first thing that struck me was the minute hand - it just doesn't look right and the dial looks strange. I just can't put my finger on it...and to be honest I don't want to.

According to the Israni book, the Autos came with date and no date, manuals came with no-date only.

So I've long wanted to have a Ranger. But because of the issue where these didn't have their own reference numbers for most (all?) of their life, its hard to distinguish these from redialed Oysters and Oyster Prince models. For me it boils down to how tolerant are you that your vintage Ranger is a franken.

Since I already have a nice Explorer, the itch is mostly scratched, and I'd get a Ranger only if I had a high level of confidence that it was not a franken. Red Rangers are definitely out - most people say they are all fake, so why even take the risk in the small chance it's not? I've passed on at least 2 Red Rangers. I also had the opportunity to get one that could have actually been a Ranger, but the reference number was poorly engraved on the case, and the color of the movement was off. This could happen. In another thread on WUS, I did an analysis of Big Blocks where the reference number engraved between the lugs went from terrible to good during the 90's (multiple time periods, multiple owners) - so the darn Ranger could have been legit, but again, I needed a higher level of confidence. If I didn't have a 1016 already, I would have jumped at it. It was sold 2 days later to someone who had more tolerance than I

Red Ranger = not worth the risk..... especially when there are so many nice vintage Tudor / Rolex models that are easily found and totally legit.
