There does seem to be a new breed of collectors who have been priced out of the market but want the look and feel of vintage watches...so they turn to shit like this. There are whole forums dedicated to them!

I don't buy any justification of being "priced out of the market" for vintage that Alexei is pushing, any more than I would buy it for any modern watch that is faked. There are plenty of inexpensive vintage watches out there that people can buy instead of this garbage.

With the price this reached, I'm also not sure I buy that the people who were bidders all knew it was fake either. Alexei is so vociferous in defending these, and attacking those who report them, it does make you wonder what his motivations are.

This may be true. Despite the seller saying the parts were not original, he did mention that the case was sold to him as “refurbished”, and the movement is a genuine movement.
At the very least I can see some people thinking- well, some of the parts are real so it’s real enough.
Who wants to take wagers we won’t see this pop up in an “is this real” new member post in the coming weeks.

Get off your high horse. There will always be replica cases/fakes.
Most people can usually tell the difference.

Did you get misled by his ad? Did you nearly buy a fake watch? No....

I've actually been hunting a good rebuild like this - if I'd seen it I would have given it a few bids.

If he scratched it up and patina treated the dial and listed it as "original", then you have the right to complain.

You are right in that it is a faithful reproduction. (foot in mouth). What other option do people have with watches that collector's have priced out of the market by hoarding? 90% of the members on here hoard their NOS speedsonics and NOS Ed Whites and never wear them.

yes but is it an original high horse, or a modern replica? Because those originals are getting hard to find. The view from an original high horse can never be replicated by a modern repro IMO
