Fake Mitsukoshi Speedmaster Dials??

Hey All, I recently bought a couple Mitsukoshi Dials from a seller on ebay who stated he had found them in a storage room he bought. It seemed like a good opportunity to build watches for my brothers, who took an interest in my Misukoshi Mod. Upon receiving the dials, something seemed off to me. I noticed small differences between mine and the two dials I have. Neither came in original factory packaging and the dials have some light surface/edge wear. Also the markers are held on with adhesive on the backside, which I had never seen before. I was hoping I could get another set of eyes from those who have had more experience with these dials. I wasn't sure if anybody has seen some variation in these dials over time or if fakes existed. Thank you!

Compared to the dial in this link, for example, some differences are apparent:

As I learned from @noless - Omega (or instructed by them their dial manufacturers) started using resin behind the dials too for better impact resistance - but would it explain this or match the production, no idea

Sadly eBay sellers being eBay sellers they manage to ruin everything, there is probably a special process where you run a dial through a coin purse pre shipping

I don’t like the look of this dial as there is so much that seems quite off with it. Firstly, and glaringly to me, the hour markers are a completely different shape & finish to any other Mitsukoshi I have seen before. They look blocky/squared off and seem crude comparatively. The lume plots look awful and some aren’t even in line with the hour markers. And “professional” is lacking serifs. It looks wrong.

Mine for example

Two I quickly found on this forum

+1 , and the rise in the dial edge ( step) is less sharp then an original to my eyes as well.

Good catches. You both are confirming my concerns. I appreciate the insights!

I looked at that too, and I think same seller has a few Gemini IV dials also. Again, they don’t look quite right. For example, on the ‘G4 the date letters in red are above the dial finish and it has the same over-large lume dots at 12. I’m not 100% and don’t have a G4 to compare the red letters, but my radar is on alert.

You're right. The indexes in the real dial are more refined, with a little bevel on the long edge. Similar issue with the series, which is evident when comparing the 'G' in OMEGA: the real dial has small series. Overall, the script is sharper in the real dial. Plus like Ron_W pointed out, the step/rise is more pronounced in the real one.

Just came across that Gemini dial on ebay (I also have a genuine one at home). My 2c is that the ebay one is fake. Dial shape and step is completely off. Also uneven and incorrect finish to subdials.

Looks like we might be entering a new era of fake mods, for the speedy at least.

The more people that report the item to eBay as a fake/counterfeit the better the chance it will be pulled. Please take a moment to report this to eBay, here is the link to the auction

Also no where does he explicitly say it's a genuine dial. He knows what he is doing. And he has several

Actually, under “about this item,” the brand is listed as Omega. Which certainly implies that it’s legit.

All the listings are gone now, not sure if they were pulled or sold off-platform. It looks like at least 3 G4 and 3 Mitsukoshi were sold. Not sure if @masteroftime purchases were both on that list or not.

And just curious OP, were you able to get your money back on those 2 dials? And did you have to return them? I would “think” if you made a claim of counterfeit through eBay (assuming you didn’t go direct on the purchase) they wouldn’t want them returned but am a bit curious if you don’t mind giving more info on the final results.

Thank you all for your help! I am grateful for your time and knowledge. On my end, it showed that 8 were sold in the BIN / BO listing and 1 was still available. I know the seller also sold 1 dial in an auction.

I bought my two after my dad bought one. eBay "not as described" cases were opened and returns were accepted yesterday. I have been provided labels to return the dials. Seller did not say anything. I was not aware of a way to more directly raise the counterfeit issue. In my limited experience, they have always required buyers to return counterfeit items.

I wondered whether these could be later service dials from when Omega sold these, but if they were, would they still say WK3052031 behind the dial?

I think its on brand for Omega to make service dials less/different than originals

But of course I would also conclude on fake, I just wondered though

Gemini dial is still available from Omega and is the same as the original. I think the Misukoshi is also but is an exchange only item.
