Yeah, I agree. Frankly, I suspect that most of these so-called bespoke watch strap makers simply import them from Vietnam and mark them up 400%.

I would fall short of calling such skullduggery but my thoughts are that the costs of some of these straps seem excessive. You get two straps using leather from the Horween factory and one costs £30 and another £130. Whilst one may be handmade the look is the same and i am sure the durability is too. There are only so many stitch types that can be employed. For me the value isn't there with expensive straps.

Well, in the early PAM days, I could see some very poorly made straps sell for $150+ USD (this was around 15 years ago!) when all they had going for it was a claim the leather was from a vintage leather satchel and such. Probably was, but the handiwork was clearly lacking.

A friend of mine, who dabbles on the side with leather work, gave me the website of his leather supplier. Let's say I was astonished to see how cheap wholesale leather is. Doing a Google search will easily yield similar results.
