I love my Black Dial Explorer II. It's my weekend/knock around watch, I swim with it, hike with it, not concerned about scratching the bezel or bracelet. I love the matte center (non-polished) bracelet links. This watch turned me on to getting on the wait list for the new Deepsea D-Blue and Daytona Black Dial.

Sleeper. I think they will become desirable. I’ve been watching prices tick up and up.

What this guy says. Just because they don't have a waitlist like the Daytona, Hulk, and Batman doesn't mean they're unpopular. I have the Polar 216570, and I really like it. Show me a timepiece that's more legible than this one, and it's likely a wall clock.

Some interesting comments. For those that haven’t yet, I’d definitely say try one on next time you see one.
I might go for a second look next week :0) my dealer has offered me a decent trade in on a Breitling Blackbird I purchased new a couple of years ago which I don’t wear now, so it’s kinda two birds with one stone scenario. Which also makes another good point, not sure about you guys but my AD only takes a trade in on ‘off the shelf Rolex’ and not waiting list pieces?? Usually a good £500 over what others offer too.
How tastes change over the years!!! Hahaha.

I'd say that the 16570 is a sleeper. It is almost the same watch as a GMTII and still a lot cheaper.

my first and favorite rolex! if i had known about the 14060M im not sure if i wouldve bought the 16570 first or second. I remember seeing it in a 2nd hand watch shop i frequent. definitely affordable as the proprietor has only raised the price $100 in a year, from $3800 to $3900 only.

I personally like them for the reasons you summarise. I would really liked to see the trip lock crown on them though. I would personally not buy any watch because it may become desirable. The fact that I like it will do fo me!!!

I totally agree! I wear all my watches in rotation because I appreciate them all and I don’t own one piece that was purely purchased for an investment only, that I don’t like to wear.
But I’m not ashamed to admit that the second thing I look at is desirability/investment, I really like the fact that I get to enjoy what is also a great investment :0)

I think they never will be a real collectible, same goes for the older Explorer.
You are not talking about old 3,6,9, are you?))))

I love my 16570, absolute tool watch by any means. If you like to have Rolex sports SS model that doesn't draw attention from miles away, but has GMT and super cool looking an older explorer 2 is a way to go. Good combination of affordability and appearance.
I never thought I would love it that much. In fact , I'm wearing one today.
As far as collectibility, I don't think it would ever be super HOT, but I think it's going up little by little.
Buy what you like, this way you'd truly enjoy it.

Love the root beer too!! Also high on my list :0)

Love my Rootbeer. Some of these are a matter of taste and buying a watch for its potential investment properties isn’t a great idea.

Don't know why people say exp2 aren't collectable. Price has been steadily increasing for tritium dial 16570 especially this year.

I think they're awesome watches!

.... will they become collectible? ...

we’ll know 20-30 years from now...🍿

.... Interested to here people’s thoughts????...

this is the only six-digit reference model that I’d consider... for me, it will be a tough choice beteween the white and black dial though.... nice pic btw..

😀
