The watch is lovely….. but the wrist band looks like it was made from some old blokes scrotum

Any idea of history / background of this Lovely EP and strap??

Thanks! I have not seen one before (the strap). Most likely artillery - landbased (field or coast) or marine. Might, I say might, be for winter use as the band is quite large and it would help to have it on the outside of the uniform. And by that not having to hold it in your hand getting cold - or fiddle/fumble with cold hands.
