Everyday watch - is a Cosmic Triple Date Moonphase a realistic choice

Thank you for posting that picture @waXology - that is a really beautiful timepiece. There aren't many in that condition that are there?!

I've been continuing my research and (although it's possibly sacrilege to say so!) I'm not taken with the Jaeger LeCoultre watches enough to buy one. They're very nice for sure but just not for me - the cases somehow aren't as nicely shaped as some others I've admired.

I haven't seen an Omega Cosmic 2471 / 2472 / 2585 / 2486 for sale that I like the look of yet but the search continues in case I do. There are so many bad redials out there and being a picky git I don't really want a rose gold filled case... I'm sure that the perfect example will turn up if I play the long game.

I have seen a few Omega Speedmaster triple dates that I like, which are a more practical bet than the Cosmic as they're better weather proofed and also automatic. This one would be a cracker (and quite a bit more affordable) if it were in stainless:

The other watches I've come across and relly quite like are Le Cheminant Skymaster Triple Moonphrase. They're obviously based on the Omega, but are more affordable, automatic and look pretty nice, too. The Le Cheminant brand doesn't quite have the cache of Omega, but there's a history there for sure.

One sold and Bonhams recently: https://www.bonhams.com/auctions/18849/lot/113/

This one is more like the Omega Cosmic, currently up for sale for $2k

Please do continue to chime in if you've anything to say for or against any of that!

Hi
the triple date ref. 3944 has been one of my favourite for ages. This is mine:

It is an excellent watch for everyday, and it sits very comfortably on the wrist. The only limitation to wearing, for me, is the fear of banging it and denting its perfect profile. Only little problem is that its crown is not the easiest for winding.

I feel like a lot of old triple calendar moonphases had poor water resistance and either have terrible water damaged dials or redials. I've hardly seen any good dials on these. the outer track especially tends to be messed up

Very nice to read all the comments and suggestions on the cosmic triple date watches. I am looking at an Omega cosmic triple date now and consider of buying it. The dial looks original because it shows signs of moisture attacks and with age specks. If the price is right, I'll buy it and I'll include some pics here for you guys. Thanks. All the best.

Redials are just as prone to “moisture attacks” as original dials. I suggest you post a picture before you buy.
