·Good evening gentlewomen and -men,
I’m considering taking a step into the minefield that is black dialed vintage Omegas and was hoping for your feedback - I have my doubts, so I’d rather be safe than sorry. And there’s nothing safer than “OF-approved”. 😀
This is what lured me: A 1950s Seamaster Calendar, likely ref. 2849. Here’s what I’m thinking:
Case looks a little dirty, but fine otherwise. Cal 503 and the serial match the time frame the 2849 was produced. The crown is different to the one that Omega shows in their archive picture, but about every other 2849 I can find has the same one, so that should be fine. Font is hard to judge as it seems to be slightly washed out and the plexi obviously needs some love, but it seems correct to me. What bothers me (next to not knowing the condition of the dial itself due to the bad plexi) is mostly the minute ticks. Shouldn’t they also be gold instead of white print?
Here’s a picture of an outstanding example by our own @cristos71 (hope it’s ok to use that here):

Here’s the picture from the Omega archives:
Last but not least, the pictures of the watch in question. There’s no picture available of the inside of the case back, unfortunately, seller hasn’t been the most responsive:
As always, appreciate your help greatly!
