I'm still waiting for my Centenaire 61, full restoration will take 4-6 months.
That long? It's been 4 months on July 12, I hope pretty soon!
I've tried loading pics prior to resto but I'm getting some kind of error message. Well...
Could somebody tell me why that long for restoration???
Thanks!
Got an email from the watch repair guy and watch should be ready by mid August. I'll post here when I get it.

Oops! Not done as promised (mid August), now it's 1st week September due to the watch component that they are waiting. Don't know what will be next (alibi?)
So, posting would be late folks!

found an interesting ad for the centenaire. not sure what it means, may just be advertising pablum, but it makes some claims.

"...only factory to pass, with watches from serial production, tests set by the Neuchatel Observatory..." -and- "...make the Centenaire '61' a potential Observatory chronometer."

well that's odd. so, do "watches from serial production" mean that they just submitted regular movements plucked off the line? I looked up eterna's entries on the observatory chronometer database, and the results are ok. certainly not in the top 3 as many of omega's were, but good enough to achieve bulletins. but then, if they could claim such a thing, why not do so? why call them "potential observatory chronometers"? were there costs associated with acquiring such certification?

I'm guessing that I may be the only one interested in this.

wonderful! I thought of placing there here as well.

one thing to note: if serial numbers corroborate to production, and i'm not sure why they wouldn't, then the number is watches eterna produced is a fraction of the likes of omega and rolex.

Joined the Eterna family recently. Here is my 60/61 Chronometer Centenaire, cal 1439U, with original crystal, crown and Schild coat of arms medallion. I do have two questions for the experts:
1. Is the medallion in 18k solid gold?
2. The dial color appears to be in light grey. Is that the effect of patina over the years or Eterna did use similar color for the dial back in the days?

This is the first vintage watch I bought more than 25 years ago and was my daily wearer for more than 10 years. the condition is still nice esp. the lume dots are crisp

This 1950 Eternamatic belonged to my father-in-law. It was damaged when he jumped into the Russian River to pull out his 8 year old son who fell in. That was about 54 years ago. The watch was so rusted that a skilled watch repair person declined my offer to restore it. I have intermittently tinkered with it for a year. I took it completely apart and soaked the rusted movement parts in Black Tea. That seemed to do a good job cleaning up the rust. I then passed the parts thru some solvents before reassembly. Today, i got the escapement to finally come back to life. It was pretty cool to see the little balance wheel keep moving and the wheels spinning. The rest of the repair should be easier, but may take a while to finish as i am missing some small parts to finishe the date wheel assembly.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but had to show off a recent acquisition. Eterna Matic 1000, gold dial and gold plate. Gotta love the Birks co-logo!

Eterna made sturdy and beautifully designed timepieces. They were the first brand to introduce the 5 ball bearings rotor hence their logo. They even made dive watches for IDF's commando.
This is the Birks challenger i used to own and that i miss dearly.
