Eta calibre 7753 question

A friend has an Oris 3-register chronograph with date, Eta calibre 7753, and he has a question that I am unable to answer. And Oris has been no help to him either. Actually, he HAD three questions, and I have answered two of them. The third question has me stuck. The hour register hand will not zero when the chronograph reset button is pressed. And I think it should! Anybody that can confirm that the hour register hand should reset to zero?

Your question as to why it wouldn’t zero is valid. This is a brand new watch. When the watch was assembled, the chronograph hands were fitted at a time that the chronograph was stopped, but not zeroed. Result, the minutes totalizer hand zeroed at 27 minutes! The seconds hand zeroed properly. I solved that problem by zeroing the chronograph, and removing the minutes totalizer hand, re-fitting it at zero. Another problem the guy had was that he was unable to re-set the calendar. He phoned the Canadian distributor to complain there was something wrong with the calendar re-set function, and they gave him the wrong advice. He hadn’t seen the exterior re-set button on the edge of the case at 11. The dealer had given him an incorrect user guide! That leaves the only problem...the hour register hand not zeroing. I have worked on my own Landeron 7750, but I’m not comfortable working on someone else’s. I checked the on line user guide, and it did not offer the information re: whether the minute totalizer should zero. I thought it should. This thing had defects from the factory! It goes back under warranty!

Even though it's going to be an easy fix, that's terrible QC and very annoying. You would think they would run through a basic checklist before letting the watch leave the factory.

Yes, of course it should reset to zero. Simple matter of removing and resetting the hand on properly.

No idea how Oris handles warranty repairs in Canada, or who does them. In the past I've found their distributor here to be pretty useless. The US distributor in NY state used to be quite good to work with (I bought parts from them without issue), but then they changed who was handling the brand in the US., and since then I pretty much avoid working on the watches, since the new distributor won't sell parts.

Removing the hour totalizing hand and re-setting it to zero is not the answer in this case. That is exactly what I did to solve the problem of the minute totalizer hand. That problem is now solved. The hour totalizer hand does NOTHING when the chronograph is stopped, and the re-set button pushed. The hour totalizer hand totalizes as it should as the chronograph runs. But stop the chronograph and hit the re-set button, and the hour totalizer hand just sits at the last register point.

I have heard stories about the Canadian distributor, and the next to non-existent service with warranty complaints. Or service of any kind, period! The subject watch is still under warranty, so it is going back to the distributor.

Okay, your description of the problem wasn't clear. So if the hand doesn't move at all when resetting, then it's likely an issue with the hour hammer or it's operating lever possibly being out of position.

The chronograph section for the hour recorder is the same as a regular 7750. The only real difference here is the addition of wheels to move the minute counter around, and the changes to the date. So these are not difficult to work on.

If you have already worked on this, the warranty is now void, so hopefully they will honour it. Tech guides are readily available for this movement, but if you need one, let me know and I can send it to you.

Cheers, Al

Thanks for the offer of the tech guide. I have the ETALAB tech guide for the 7750, and I have worked on my own 7750. Considering the warranty situation, and the fact this is not my watch, I don’t plan on doing anything more with it. Back to the distributor it goes.
