I suppose this is good news since I own a 105.003 but I don't see high value in this watch. To me the dial is a speckled, blotchy brown, not very attractive, the lume scraped, the bezel fair to good, no bracelet (but lately there never is) .......hands and case ok. But over $10,000?? Wow. The best thing about this watch are the photos with the watch tilted just right to be highlighted by the sun.

And the movement number is too low as well.

Am I overly critical? I didn't think this watch would break $6,000.

Others may feel differently but I think the most tropical thing about that watch is the humidity. I know some like the tropical browning of the dial - I personally don't but I respect the opinion of those who do. Nevertheless this is a bit too far IMO.

as a fellow owner of a 105.003 '64, i guess i should happy too. However, I don't think this particular offering is worth that price for the same reasons Gemini4 mentioned. when i put mine up for sale (better condition & recently serviced), should i expect 10K+??? In my dreams.

Before I'd spend $10,500 for this Ed White, I would have gladly invested perhaps $3,000 more and walked away, beaming from ear to ear with this

A really nice 2998-5 offered at $15,500 but negotiable. To me these two watches are not even compatible and the 2998-5 comes with a 7077/7912 bracelet and (it's hard to see) #6 end links. Just the difference in the DON bezel+ the bracelet + end links is over $3,000 in added value.

If you're in the USA, you'd save an additional $100 on the shipping difference as well.

i was very interested that 2998. The dial has been touched up on the seconds register. At or near that price, wasn't worth it to me.

What's up with the hands? Specifically the minute hand which is lumed only in the top 2/3rds rather than the full length?

Its also too short for the point to touch the outer fifths of second hashes on the dial like a Speedmaster should and the outer diameter of the hand hole is larger than a real Speedmaster hand. I'm guessing when he was putting this one together he had a cheap Speedmaster Mark 4 hand laying around and stuck that on as a "that'll do" solution.

And again, hands are not original from factory, new replacements artificially aged. Probably the only original is hour hand, Perhaps that bidder enter in reason before paying that amount of money.

@dsio, just so I follow, the minute hand should reach the smaller 5th of a second markers? Is that true of all 321s?

There are many hand sets and dials for 321s, none of them are that length with 2/3rds lume and that large "loop" around the center hole for the hand. Depending on the angle you look at it sometimes the hand can look shorter or longer as well but this hand is shorter from every angle due to being from a Mark series.

I actually emailed the owner before he posted it on ebay. His asking price was 6500 euros negotiable.

I think we will see it again...
smells shill bidding

I just watched another of his offerings with a similar insane winning bid with the same bidding pattern...
and we have also got to know some of the seller´s character already... I will not mention his name...

Yes, would be great if you could please elaborate on his character. I follow him on IG as well and am wondering if he's a good seller to buy from.

It is known as "sniping". There are services that offer this and their computer puts in your bid at the last moment - however many seconds before the end of the auction. Alternatively, you can snipe manually which is much more fun. Of course, it doesn't allow you to react to being out-bid but if you snipe with your maximum comfortable price then it saves you getting carried away. Going "Ashley" is a whole different level but I'll let @dsio explain that. 😗

This chapter is closed - I will not open it again.

For the more recently joined members I sum it up: he was a member here and was banned by the mods (for good reasons).
