I'm familiar with the image of Apollo 12 astronaut Dick Gordon wearing the JB Champion mesh bracelet with curved end pieces thus making it popular among collectors but is there an image of the JB Champion brick style bracelet with curved end pieces being worn on the Moon that is driving the price of this particular style bracelet that I'm missing?

I think this style JB bracelet is very attractive on the Speedmaster but for the life of me can't figure out what is driving the price since it's a commonly availble bracelet that can be found much cheaper with a little looking around. The only difference I can see is the curved end pieces.

So behold the power of a curved end pieces...

Here is the original auction I was following with price ending in the upper stratosphere at $1632.

It appears that what was driving the price of the original auction may have been that buyers assumed the auction was for the complete watch and bracelet since it has currently been relisted here with a large edit noting the bracelet only is for sale. The current bid price is $762.

So is it the addition of the curved end pieces that is driving the price on the above auction because the auctions below here and here are the identical bracelet only with straight end pieces.

I guess what we are witnessing here is the sheer awsomeness of the JB Champion curved end piece.

If I had an all correct 321 caliber moonwatch I think $500-$700 is worth it for this strap because of the originality.

Just curious, what originality? It's not original to the watch and it's not the traditional JB bracelet that typically commands this kind of pricing so is it the curved end pieces you would be willing to pay the additional premium for? Why pay $726 (currently) when you can have the exact same bracelet for $185 or less with the straight end pieces?

I may be mistaken in my knowledge of the history of the strap, but, I assumed the curved strap was solely used by the Apollo astronauts and if I had an all original pre moon Speedy the price is justified in terms of horological significance. Now, if some wore the straight strap in space then yes it's just more irrational exuberance.

That makes sense if you are not quite familiar with the history and use of the JB Champion bracelet by NASA. Below is the JB Champion style that is associated with its use by NASA. It has the mesh band as opposed to the brick style above. This is the style bracelet that typically commands the higher pricing with a premium on the addition of the curved end pieces. The bracelets above have no historical significance or connection to NASA but are very attractive on the Speedmaster.

Perhaps someone fancies removing the horned-ends and retro-fitting them to the straight-end JB mesh?

I think the straight end seller should takes some pics of the bracelet on a speedy, then he can jack up the price by $500. :)

I get the horned ends are nice (I have a mesh with horned end) but at the price differential I like the straight lug. But honestly I prefer the JB mesh and then the 1035 bracelet for my Ed White.

In my opinion the 19mm horn rimmed version JB are fine on a 19mm straight lug (2998, 105.00x) but noticeably short on the 20mm lug professionals. On the 20mm, the straight ended JB blends in nicer.
