Wow, that was a fantastic find, my relatives don't even have cheap quartz in their attics 😁

The buyer of this watch will probably be a knowledgable collector, and picky about where it is serviced and what is done. They will probably NOT be turned off by the dirty condition, but more likely see it as a plus. Leave it just as it is, take a few more pics, and put it on eBay. I think the family will be very pleasantly surprised by what it brings.
Servicing prior to selling could cost you more than just what is paid for the service.

I agree with this. Also, wouldn’t you have to send it to Biel/Bienne to have it serviced in order to provide a legit level of confidence to the seller?

Honestly, sending it to Bienne would probably make a fair number of Speedy collectors run for the hills anyway, compared to more popular independent watchmakers who are known for sympathetic restorations.

Point is, the best way to sell on the open market is as-is, with clear pictures, and a forthright description on a 7 day auction. The market will take care of the rest.

10 day auction to give time to more collectors to see it and advertise here when it's up. You need as many eyes on it as possible. I'll bid on it.

Sell your car, walk to work, find a way, to honorably purchase your beautiful watch. You were chosen.

Why don't you make your family an offer ? Are you the one on behalf of the family to sell it?
I don't want them to think I am a scammer, so I try not to involve myself too much in this. But yes I will guide them through the process of selling this extraordinary piece 😀

Yes, I think they should have sold it in this condition, but they sent it to a watchmaker before I could say anything. He is supposed to only clean the movement, which I hope he does. Then we'll see what we do, you think ebay is the best place to sell it?

Authored by one of the OF’s premiere members, www.speedmaster101.com has everything you need to know about your find and an updated pricing list is on it as well.

Echoing others, if you are selling it, do not get it serviced. Perhaps a crystal polish using Polywatch (available on Amazon) is all that’s needed.
