eBay, sending to the EU from the U.K warning.

Thanks for your warnings.
Sorry to hear about your lost items!
eBay must protect the sellers because without us there is no eBay!!

Yes and no. eBay's profit of 13% from the selling price materializes only once the Buyer pays. The seller without a buyer just pays a meager listing fee to eBay. PayPal is put of the picture now; eBay manages everything

Sorry to hear this and what an awfull behaviour from that buyer.
If you ship to the EU it is important to write the VAT paid nr in the address as well ( in between name and street for example ) i learned, this is the Ebay tax code so they let EU customs know they collected the import VAT charge.
That number is listed on your ebay invoice and looks like this : VAT PAID : IOSS-IM276000xxx

And yes, smoke that buyer through feedback and other postings, what an arsx

Can you pls. elaborate about the paid tax / code/ number ..... Every EU country wants it's 20% VAT/Gst/Mwst..... They are not interested in VAT paid in the UK incoming. We talk about outgoing from the UK ? What has changed here?

If you ship to the EU
and order from ebay, ebay charges me VAT on import on behalf of the EU , and hopefully transfers this to the EU customs as well. The small orders under 20 or 25 were always vat excempt, not anymore - everything is taxed. The platforms didnt charge any vat anyway so a source of state income was unused-platforms didnt pay anyway from the Bahamas or Virgin islands or Amsterdam double Dutch sandwich tax haven, but that is another discussion 👎

IOSS (europa.eu) https://taxation-customs.ec.europa.eu/ioss_en

As a buyer you now have already paid your import vat/tax, but If the seller from outside the EU does not mention/fill in the correct information on the parcel, ie their IOSS nr and VAT paid declaration, you also get taxed + handling costs by your last mile courier. Now you have to file a claim with ebay with all documents that you have been charged double and ebay will refund VAT only, not the handling costs !
So i urge the seller to include the correct VAT paid declaration and/or write on the enveloppe :

I would also consider writing to the customer complaints journalists - there’s a column in the Sunday Times (“Question of Money”) for example that highlights the most egregious cases, and asks the companies for a response - and they always seem to love poking companies such as eBay …

That is a good one - the Which magazine might also be a good route.

Still not sure.... You buy as a UK buyer and VAT is charged from you by eBay on behalf of the UK government. Nothing to do with Brexit/ selling. If you as a private person auction that watch again on eBay as a seller , you export into the EU , but can not claim your VAT back as a seller. So, after Brexit every shipment out of the UK into Europe gets taxed again from the buyers country with their GST/VAT. Even if you not use the eBay international shipping system and declare correct, your buyer will not get his watch without paying his local taxes. After Brexit, Europe does not care about VAT paid in the past. Correct ?

Correct

Correct, used goods no vat, new goods are exported ex vat afaik
after Brexit every shipment out of the UK into Europe gets taxed again from the buyers country with their GST/VAT
Correct, but the platforms, ie Ebay, act as tax collector for the Importing country. And if the seller does not mark the parcel as VAT Paid, i get taxed twice and must ask for a refund from ebay.

As has been mentioned already, if you are in UK, consider the eBay global shipping program. eBay says:
  • You simply post your items to the UK Shipping Centre using your usual postal service.
  • Duty payment, customs clearance, tracking and everything else will be taken care of by us.
  • You don’t have to pay anything extra – just the cost of posting to the UK Shipping Centre.
  • Your seller performance standards are protected.
The size and insurance level is pretty good:
The item must weigh no more than 30kg and be no larger than 125,000 cm³, and no longer than 120cm on the longest side. It should be worth no more than £2,000.

And in terms of protection:
You aren't responsible for item loss or damage that occurs after the item reaches the UK Shipping Centre. Once an item has been forwarded by the UK Shipping Centre, you won't be responsible for refunding the buyer if an eBay Money Back Guarantee or PayPal Buyer Protection case is filed against you for one of the following reasons:
A buyer claims an item isn't received or a package is damaged in transit

Hope this helps.

Cheers, Chris

If the bezel ‘buyer’ is happy to keep it without paying I feel you’d be justified in posting his name and eBay user details on here so we can all avoid what is basically a thief.

ps sellers can’t give feedback to buyers on eBay uk anymore AFAIK so that route suggested above won’t work.

This is my correspondence with the bezel guy.
He isn’t a very nice person at all.
One of the last people I would like to deal with again in the future.
He started texting in Spanish with rough translation below.
First: Don't go back to me
to threat

DIE: I'm from
vacation with my family

Third: You have not fulfilled
With the deadlines. Ebay ha
closed the case. If you sell
In ebay you have to accept
her rules

3 months has taken

And I had to pay
Customs and Vat

For one thing that no longer
needed

Do you understand?
Well you have to pay me
€ 41

€ 20 of shipping costs and
€ 21 of expenses
import

That is not worth?

Well, ebay gets
in contact with me
And I will fix it with Evan
them
EBay

The aggravation will cost more then the money i think.
I bought some beco technic screwdrivers on ebay from France and the tips started rusting after 8 months. Blued steel tips, chemical blue but still. Should be replaced under warranty i think, the seller does not want to do that. States : blued steel is open to rust ?? and : could be caused by hand touching ?? How do you not touch screwdrivers ?? And i use finger cods. Complaint filed with ebay and paypal but this isnt covered by them. They could at least urge the seller to replace under warranty or else ?? But no,
Nobody cares.... so all i can do is give a 1 star feedback on trustpilot, and i wasn`t the only one, and informed the producer Beco technic about the re sellers lack of standards and risk for their reputation. No asnwer yet.

And all i am thinking: what a waist of my time.... throw em out and buy new ones. Any effort is waisted on guys like this, like your bezel thief. People steel for that little money, be it non paid goods or not giving warranty on replacement tips of maybe 5 euro.

it is that kind of world.

Sorry to hear.

Stopped using eBay long time ago (but the bloody bastards still have a huge reach). I wish there was a better version of it.

I guess now you Brits can pull one out of the Yanks ‘favorites’ book…append ‘CONUK Only’ to the listings (and please share the responses 😁 )…

sorry to hear and appalling that someone would basically steal from you.
i only use ebay via authenticity guarantee services or GSP so I don't have to deal with stuff like this. just not worth the headache
