It has been more than 4 years of looking and hesitating on spending a large amount of money on a watch, but my wife finally convinced me to get it.

Just received Speedmaster MW from Chitownwatch.com. Sergey did a great job of packaging and he responded very quickly to my questions. Thanks Sergey.

I have seen many unveiling pictures of the MW on this forums, but it is really breathtaking in person. This forum is awesome with the level of information and input from the members. Thank you Senior Members for educating us Junior Members.

I cannot help but tease a little at this typo:

Congrats! Great seller, and a rear watch.

Do brand new Speedys come with a fanny pack attachment now? Looking forward to @Mad Dog showing this off with live pics!! 😉

I wish. The wife is an enabler but not that accomadating.

If the Omega Speedy prices keep going. The only people able to afford them would be fanny pack owners. Maybe that would be the Boutique giveaways, Omega engraved fanny packs.

Do you have a approximation of the Omega watch inflation rate? I am interested in comparing to the general CPI.

377701

Thanks. I am considering a 377

I found somewhere that the Omega sold for $82.50 in 1969. I believe a 2016 SMP MW is around $5,400 MSRP. This means that the price has gone up 6,445%. Using an inflation calculator, that $82.50 is worth $536.76 in 2016. Now this is cost analysis, but not one of value.

We the buyer determine the value. I value its NASA history or when I speak about watches with my buddy that owns several Rolexes; I can give him a dissertation on the evolution of the MW movement and its space history. So this watch is a conversation piece and that is where it has its value.

Also interesting when you calculate it against national average wage in US: https://www.ssa.gov/oact/cola/AWI.html

$82.50 = ~1.4% of avg annual income in 1969
$5,400 = ~11.2% of avg annual income in 2016
