eBay Ed White grab - what’s right, what’s wrong & why I grabbed it anyway

I’d be worried if I had any intention of selling it. With tritium hands, I’m going to wear it and actually be proud of it. With the dial and the really nice case, an Ed White movement - oh yeah, I will absolutely wear the piss out of it. I think it’s cool. But, my judgement is known to be questionable.

Here’s an example from 15 months ago, when I knew even less than I do now, but was still doing the same thing:

Btw, I still haven’t changed the hands and dial on that CB. :whipped:

And there are a lot of ‘not perfect’ watches that need homes.

Well, as I said, it is a nice watch, you should be proud to wear it. I do the same with mine (no service parts, but a seemingly untraceable s/n 🫨 which is not in the usual range).

Do find some tritium things for your CB! :whipped:😁 It will look better...

I actually have the correct wide neck pushers, a B3 dial and tritium hands set aside for it. 🙁 But, I love having a luminova 321 Speedmaster. Just one. I think that photo above captures why. But again, everybody’s different. As it is, it’s one of my favorite watches.

I think sometimes we’re in such a rush to ‘correct’ old watches, that we often wind up with something less - because the bits don’t ‘fit together’, despite spending much money. Doesn’t a complete make over become a franken at some point? The CB feels like it goes together the way it came to me. I worry that after throwing the parts at it, I’d never feel the same way about the watch.

I’m not buying to sell, although it does come to that from time to time. I’m buying out of love, which is probably a mistake, but I couldn’t do it any other way.

There’s a buyer for different tiers. If this ever decided to change hands I know I’d be happy to pay well over the initial closing price plus needed updates as I’m probably one of the lower tier type buyers.

I don’t have as deep of pockets as collector grade collectors so it’s nice to be able to play the game at a fraction of the price.

Anything straight lugs 321 at under $10k is a dream for a buyer like me.

Did you see this thread?

The op watch is to me a put together, basically a case and movement. True the bezel is nice, but not (yet) valuable.

If the extract comes back confirmed 105.003 then it’s a bargain.

I don’t like the case, no matter where it came from, and clearly other buyers/ bidders thought the same.

I think the watch hit the right price and while it was a low figure for an Ed White, well, it isn’t an Ed white.

Points well taken. I guess this is why I ended up with it.

And, the sad thing is that knowing all this now, I’d still do it again. 😁

One thing you can say for OP is that he will learn quickly and effectively by actually handling these watches. Having then in your hand is very educational...

Here's one that I sent to omega for restoration.. For the experience if you will.

As a wise member here once said, getting into straight lug speedies isn't easy, and to buy one is often to buy one with issues. Best thing you can do is make sure you know what the issues are and what it would take to set them right.
