Hi guys,

I’m looking to buy a new watch soon (when aren’t I). Just wondered if anyone could share any experiences with eBay’s authenticity guarantee, good or bad.

thanks!

I don't think you will get a balanced view by starting a thread like this. For example, you can read several threads detailing horrific experiences, including one very recent thread. However, the vast majority of people have no problems but don't post a thread. Personally, I have sold several watches that went through authentication with no trouble.

I’m always surprised to learn that people still buy watches on Flea-Bay.

Good thinking, less competition for the rest of us. 😁

Yeah, I mean I don't like it but eBay has probably sold a lot of watches successfully with the program in place. I can admit that much. For me personally, it's an unnecessary step in a process that I'm comfortable with. I've purchased three Omegas off of eBay over the years before this program existed and only one had an undisclosed issue which I wonder if the authenticator would have noted. Fortunately, the seller stepped up immediately and it was handled to my satisfaction. Even if they hadn't, I think I still would've been okay with the deal as it was priced appropriately for the time and the required repair was straightforward.

In 20+ years and 41 watches, I've bought 28 on eBay and never had a problem. You just have to do your due diligence...look at the sellers other items to see if they do a lot of quality watches, look at and take the time to read the feedback, educated yourself about what you are looking for well before you ever think of buying...anywhere. "Let the buyer beware" is an ancient truth. But not just "beware" but also be aware.

I disagree — mainly when it comes to e-bay’s feedback policy. If a seller refunds you, the seller has the opportunity to expunge negative feedback.
