Doesn't sound like they put much planning into this.

I am guessing that they know what they are going to do, but they are purposely being vague. Perhaps because they don't want people to focus on potential problems with the policy, or perhaps because they want to leave themselves the ability to make changes on the fly.

I'm guessing that I'll have to develop new fields for watch browsing 'cause that ain't gonna cut the mustard with me.

I don't want to be nannied, not by government, not by my appliances or my car, not even by Mrs. noelekal, so will not be nannied by Ebay's lame attempts at window dressing authenticity which is more trouble than it's worth to me.

If I desire authentication judgement then I'll come here or rely on knowledge gained through personal observation or come here to the Forum and ask someone.

I suspect that the authentication "service" will include a mandatory charge for the seller in the near future. Ebay's global shipping racket has scared me off of many items.

Cannot agree more with you. This will bring more trouble than worth and ease of things

I'm contemplating a more costly vintage watch purchase soon and Ebay will not be a shopping option because of their punishing policy of collecting state sales tax as they do.

Ebay's become a nuisance. Used to be fun.

The vast majority of my many purchases on eBay have been well below the $2k level, so this is mostly academic in my case. But I will say that I decided long ago to sell very few watches on eBay, given how absurdly they tend to favor buyers.

I hope you mean buyers? Sellers are the bottom on the barrel for eBay and it's really just going to get worse.

My question on this whole thing - What if you are upfront about some "un-authentic" things on a watch and someone still wants to buy it as a parts piece or repair to original? You sell a watch and clearly call out the defect or changes.

Or what about watches that are literally a pile of parts but still worth well above $2,000?

Or, That CK2998 that someone reprinted the dial and swapped a bezel for something aftermarket... is that going to be confiscated by this random dude?

I understand this probably more geared towards someone buying their first new Rolex on eBay and not wanting to get scammed with a replica. But there should be a checkbox or something that says "This is not being sold as 100% correct" and have the buyer agree to that before completing the purchase.

Don’t blame eBay for that. Blame the legislators in your home state. No one at eBay is going to jail for you.

Sounds like eBay may not be allowing sellers a choice.

Here’s that seller’s reply to my eBay message:

“What the hell are you talking about? What authentication program? This watch is not in any program.”

I sent him the same screen shots I’ve already posted in the other thread.

I’ll keep this updated in the thread about that particular eBay item.

Hopefully this will spawn more competitors to ebay auctions that don't ram paypal down your throat as well.

ebay has been ripe for another auction competitor for many years now, and regardless of what they say they always seems to make things up as they go along as well while trying to do things..

Yes, thanks – that's what I meant. I'll edit my post.

I did read in their terms that if a watch has non-original parts it may not be eligible. Now how that works or is determined I have no clue, but hopefully it keeps fewer pieces out of this program. Still, I don't plan to buy or sell any watch that falls under this program for the time being.
