Does your wife, husband, significant other support your watch addiction?

when I first starting getting into serious collecting, i would show and tell my wife about every piece that came in -- all the little nuances between this new one and the last one and the one before that... her eyes would glaze over and after a while, i asked her... "You aren't really interested in any of this, are you?" She replied: "nope". So now I don't share every new purchase - which suits us both!

I also bought her a watch, which she loves, so pretty easy 'round here. 😁

My wife is a very supportive person period (yes, I'm very lucky). When it comes to watches, we agreed that I could spend whatever I make doing some consulting on the side (do we still use the term "moonlighting"?), so the harder I work the more watches I can buy ;-). She also loves hearing the stories about the watches I buy and the hunt: I actually have an incoming that I can't wait to tell her about.

Finally, here's what she gave me for our 6th anniversary back in 2001:

😲
2001, I bet she walked into a boutique and just picked it out of the other trays full of Subs and GMTs and walked straight out with it in a little green Rolex bag…..those were the days 👍👍

Oh, it’s much worse than that: she actually negotiated the price!

Yes. As much as she pretends to hate it and think it is stupid, she is still the one who bought me my Speedy and the Tudor GMT.
But that is not to say it does not come without its cost. Purse here, shoes there.
New fridge on Wednesday....

No wife, no significant other, so no support or objections either. As a friend of mine used to say “No wife, no kids, no girlfriend, no pets, no problems.”

1st post - just getting into my proper watches at a grand ol' age of 61 and SO relationship of 32 years. Her response to watches followed the same line as cars, bikes and so on.... How many cars can you drive (3), bikes can you ride (7) at any one time.
I'm currently upto TH quartz of 1000, 1500, 2000, 4000, F1 and Kirium. I was getting the 'how many can you wear' vibe up until she read an article in last weeks Times about how much folks are making on them. I'm not going to tell her .... and she's now far more accepting

Welcome, and consider yourself lucky. I’m afraid you’ve entered a dark realm that will only encourage you to spend money on yet more watches you don’t need over and above you Tag’s but will love and enjoy.
Enjoy the ride, some lovely engaging people on here.

Why thank you
I feel in 32 years this is the first time i'm being slightly.... deceptive . However, i always wanted a TH and now i have several, all of which i love. It's not so much how many can i wear at once so much as how many days are there in a week / month / year ?

Many thanks - will check it out. I had subscribed to Calibre11 literally the day it closed - looked so useful too.
Will keep an eye out for your Kirium over at THF, I have the blue dialed chronometer (gen 1) myself.

This was my Fiancé's valentine's day gift to me this year 😁

The current MO is as long as I'm not emptying the bank for 'em... we're good.

Oh and a couple months back I asked her if there was a watch she wanted that I could get for a gift she proceeds to say: " I'm not sure how it's pronounced but I really like this one..." And proceeds to show me an Audemars Piguet. hahaha so when she dives down this rabbit whole, I imagine it's gonna be a deep dive

I'm more deceptive than i thought ....
Latest new favourite turned up this a.m., TH1500 Lumens, absolute beaut. "Oh, another watch, eh?"
"Yes darling, try it on, i bought it for you if you like it...."
She does
It's now her favourite new watch. Apparently watching me start my collection over the last couple of months has stimulated her interest somewhat...
It'll come back to me if I outlast her ,.
Please pass the bandage for that hole in my foot....

She supports my collecting because she sees the value of the whole collection. I've told her if I should pass, she needs to know what is there and their approximate values, so if she sells them, she won't give them away. She knows the Speedmasters are the cream and I've done my best to make her aware of a couple of the others with high values.

Now, when I bought this VW on a whim, I think she was truly shocked. I don't think she knew I had that kind of cash in the safe and maybe thought the purchase was a little frivolous. She has since seen the light after proving I paid way under current market for the car.

Figured I’d resurrect an old thread. My wife cares little about my watches it’s just not her thing. But she gets visible upset if I wear this Brian May seiko. I’m not much into gold let alone gold tone watches but I like queen and Brian May and I missed the first one they released so I just picked this up. Not particularly expensive but by chance it arrived in the mail the same day I had to put Hairy the cat to sleep. So it’s the Hairy the cat memorial watch and my wife takes that seriously and doesn’t like me to wear it out of the house. Luckily I got home before she did cause she can spot this watch a mile away. I’m going to change it now. I just find it odd, I guess she liked hairy the cat more than I realized. Let’s face it it’s a seiko 5 it will never be worth big money. I even have to clean it up after wearing cause I’ve noticed her checking it out in my watch room patrolled by arm guards. I don’t think she could name another watch I have.
