Does anyone recognise this JLC?

In a pawn shop near me.

Pretty little thing that needs a strap.

What is it and what should I offer them? Looks like it needs rescuing.

Also what is the information in the window? It’s not the date obviously.

OK, having researched it back in the office it appears to be a Cal 481 and worth £1500-£2500 top dollar. The pawn shop wanted £1500.

It looks like I would be rescuing it for love.

That looks interesting at first glance, power reserve indicator, fancy lugs, etc. It's quite polished and the dial is a bit tired, but I like it TBH. I would be inclined to make an offer.

Whilst I suspect it is very tired internally, it looks to be 36mm which is good.

So....How much?

And is there anyone known to this forum who would refurb it at reasonable cost?

For the fun, try 1000£... a few baby steps and MAYBE you could have it for 1250£ ... Who knows?

The model of the watch is called the Powermatic in the USA. I think you’ll find some answers here:

https://blommanwatchreport.com/2020/01/30/jaeger-lecoultre-e-373-powerwind/amp/

The watch looks very nice. Always good to see the movement to make sure it’s Jaeger-LeCoultre branded to match the dial, rather than a LeCoultre for the USA market. They are mechanically the same (cal. 481 for both), but at that price you just want to know, because a frankenwatch is always worth less than a fully original watch.

Also, be sure that it is 18K. JLC also cased watches in the UK, most were 9K. The hallmarks should be on the inside of the case.

Good luck and I hope the watch turns out as all original.

It's labelled as 9k. Does that matter much really?

As for opening the case - the pawn shop in question is exactly the sort of place where people would pull out a knife, just not for the purpose of opening a watch case!

I'll try them at £1k.

Who can service it and give it a light polish for me?

Big effect on value, but not a problem for using the watch.

BY way of a sanity check, what will be all-up cost be and what is it then worth?

Say £1250 for the watch.
£250 service?

Is it worth £2k finished?
