Hello OF members,
I hope I can call on your expertise in giving me some information on my RICHARD watch.
I inherited it from my Father in law and know little. I believe it was bought in Switzerland in the seventies or early eighties. I am about to get it cleaned and serviced and would like to know more before I drop it in. Any help would be welcome. I know it has value so I am happy to keep it services and pass on to my son eventually. James

Welcome to OF. The watch is not particularly collectible, but it certainly has value due to the 18k gold. And of course, most importantly, the sentimental value. If you pop open then back and show photos, we can probably identify the movement for you. But it's not really important, just information that may be of interest.

Unless you are going to wear the watch, there is no need to pay to have it serviced. The lubricant will dry up over time if you wear it or not. You could just wrap it in something protective, store it in a safe dry place, and have it serviced before you pass it on to the next generation.

Dan, thank you so much for your reply. I appreciate it .
Would you have any idea who might have made it ?

I believe that Richard was a Swiss manufacturer in the 20th century. Not a major name, but they made solid watches as far as I can tell. The OP watch is obviously a higher end dress watch. Most likely, they used a standard Swiss ebauche for the movement.

Good morning all,

I have a Richard skeleton watch that was purchased as a wedding gift in 1971 by my first wife in Basel, Switzerland. Have been wearing it ever since and it's been serviced once or twice and the crystal replaced.

I have seen similar same-period watches under the brands Vulcain and Revue, but never a Richard. The case is 26.7mm and the width if 12.6mm. Based on what appears to be the same movement on Vulcain skeletons, it likely has an MSR T54 movement (19,800 vpr) with a 50 hour backup.

Has anyone ever seen this before? Just curious as hell.

Thanks, Mike

Mikrolisk gives a lot of options but I think it is the one on the bottom of page 1.
