Do your wives, GFs or partners wear YOUR vintage watches?

Guys, I have to share this one.

My girlfriend has the thing for vintage watches. Could that be any better? She has Cartier Tank and few funky Casios and it turns out she always thought about collecting vintage pieces. And she said she wants to know every detail about my watches and stories behind them.

It is first time I am not feeling guilty for my passion. Today I offered her to choose one of my watches. And she did! When I got that picture below after few hours (with a comment how much she enjoys it), it made me happiest man. Well, I think it will be much easier now to explain why I need another watch. Or no explanation needed anymore at all..

How many of you actually share watch collecting passion with their GFs, wives or partners? Do they want to wear your watches?

Okay so she has expressed interest in your watches?? You are clearly missing something. She has probably bought an expensive bag or dress or something and she wants to soften you up before telling you. Seriously this has all my alarms going 😁

Exactly what I thought too. Watches, really? Replace that word with carburetors and then read it again. Now you get the true craziness of your girl. Methinks she really wants to know how expensive they are, and how giving you are in general...maybe some sparkly stuff. Hint Hint.🙄

Still don't believe me?

"Hey honey, tell me all about your handbags and the stories behind them".....ding ding ding ding ding🤨

My wife sometimes wear my watches, especially my GMT.

But she also has her own. Not vintage though

But I have to get it fixed first, as it was not running (facepalm).

Not a problem for my wife. I think they are mainly jewelry, and I doubt she even winds or sets her watches. I gave her a vintage black dial cal 265 to wear, and it's one of her favorites.

"Unbreakable mainspring"...sounds like a dare to me.

When "white alloy" springs first came on the market, they were marketed as "unbreakable" as you can see from this assortment...

Certainly they can and do break, but compared to the old blued steel springs that were common before these came along, they were far more reliable and there was a good chance they would not break before the watch needed servicing for other reasons, making them appear unbreakable to the user.

But yes, like "it takes a year to make a Rolex" or "the first and only watch worn on the moon" it's a lie at the core...😉

I always hated the convention of women wearing tiny watches. My wife's dime-sized Rolex DJ is so small it's nigh unreadable. It was barely legible back when we were younger and our eyesight was keener. Now it's a blurry bangle with little utility. I love to see a woman wearing a larger watch. Not necessarily man-sized (whatever that is), but that's ok too if she likes the look. Just not a "traditional" woman's watch that's tiny because it's supposed to be tiny on a woman.

My wife wears some of my watches occasionally. The bad part is that if she founds a watch around the house she will take it without asking. She assumes that they are not “too valuable “if they they are laying aorund the house.

The other day, she came home from work wearing one of my 18k Connies and said : “This one looks good, can I have it as my daily watch”
Ghaaah...No! Give it back!!!!! :whipped:

That's the reason why my watches are all in the safe .. only one exception .. the watch which is actually on MY wrist...🤪

The very small ladies watches are not very practical, and as you noted even with good eyesight they are hard to read.

What is "man-sized" is pretty subjective these days. I wear watches that range from 34 mm to the Panerai I have on right now at 44 mm, but my wife's daily wearer is a 36 mm DateJust from 1968. Her Nomos Tetra that is 35 mm square wears much bigger than the DJ, but that and the 29 mm Sinn she has all look fine on her wrist.

Cheers, Al

My wife loves watches and in the past I've bought some nice ladies or older men's watches which are in the right size group for her.
Most have been lost/stolen/destroyed while doing housework or falling over on mountain paths so I bought a modern men's Seiko 5 automatic.
It's great. She likes it, can read the time easily and if she breaks it, it doesn't break the bank.

Is this what they were talkin' about?

"Well, you can't watch your wife and your outside womens, too.
You know you can't watch your wife and your outside womens, too."

Mrs. E has been known to borrow this one. I should mention that it's my arm, not hers, in the picture.

My wife took a liking to this recently serviced 1950 Bulova Academy Award 10k Gold Filled Watch wit NOS crystal
As a result it is now in her jewelry box and sometimes on her wrist
