Here is mine, enamel dial without any hairline or chip. I bought it some 30-40 years ago for 300 DM (now 150 €) at a flea market. No repair needed, running strong and no flaws in the chronograph work. Recently I looked just for fun what is asked nowadays for these and was shocked.
How'd you like to DOUBLE your money? 😉

An early Aquasport, circa 1939. The watch can be seen in the lower right, in a vintage photograph of the collection.

Local jeweler’s junk bin had this Tissot in it. Severely scratched crystal, missing crown & stem, bottom-end chrome case showing it’s age. Dial showed Tissot, Antimagnetique, Sonderegger, Bern. It spoke to me, please check me out, so I did. Serial number dated to 1945 and the balance on the cal 27 handwind turned freely. It continued to speak, telling me that at war’s end there were millions scraping by in Europe and this “everyman’s” watch was a staple. Sure, my watchmaker has brought any number of sad pieces back to life so off it went. It came back looking great and running like a champ, grateful to have found a second life. This quick shot was on my dog walk as evidenced by the retractable and poop bag. I had looked down and was very happy with the fall season, my orange shirt, the light brown strap and the coppery-colored hardware on the dial. So I took a picture.

I own zero gold filled watches but this 28.5R-21 was too nice to pass up. I call these pre-militar's. You can call it a UG Polerouter knockoff. Lovely Tuxedo dial with crosshair and an interesting bezel. It is otw from the bay. In person photos coming soon.

I love this kind of discovery. Any thoughts to confirm. We looking at a Frankenstein? Based on this angle I don't know how this could of been done otherwise.

We looking at a Frankenstein?
It's a bit of a mystery. The watch would not have left the factory in a case like that. However, during the 1950s (the era of your watch), Tissot did use local casemakers such as Star Watch Co. and Jonell Watch Co. for watches exported to the Americas, as did Omega and other Swiss manufacturers.

Perhaps the key to unravelling the mystery lies in the casemaker's mark on the inside caseback of your watch:

The anchor mark is unknown to me; it is neither Star nor Jonell...perhaps someone else knows who it is..?

Following the above black-dialed example, here's a similar cal. 28.5R from 1957 with an off-white dial.

An interesting stepped case (10k GF) with faceted lugs. The hands and furniture are a noticeably deeper shade of gold. Atomic-age design?

After more than a year looking for a 45500 in good shape with its original bracelet, I caved in and made an offer on one from a dealer on c24. Looks very nice from the outside. (I'd rather pay 1400 for a good one with bracelet than at least 800 for a naked and / or rough one).

I think those are less common than the cushion shaped ones with the hour counter, or did I search in the wrong places? What do you think?

Nice watch !
And I agree with you : the 45500 are less often seen that the 45501. At least in my experience.
Just for the pleasure here are mine (But no bracelet found here, just one original strap on the 45501 white dial) :
