Do these Pie Pan Connies Pass the Smell Test?

Hey All,

Tax refund from Uncle Sam means I'm in the market for a vintage stainless pie pan Constellation. I've been looking on eBay for weeks, and currently the following 2 look interesting:

Number 1 seems to have a much sharper case with dog leg lugs, but I really like the slim arrowhead markers on number 2. Also what do you all think of the lume on the hands and indices, too white?

Would appreciate any input, thanks.

Ben

I am far from an expert, but I suspect both were redialed.

Thanks for the reply. Dial originality is top of my list, but I didn't see any red flags (aside from possibly the overly bright lume on the hands and indices as I mentioned). Anyway interested to know if others agree. I'm in no rush and willing to wait for the right one.

The indexes don't seem straight and some seem fatter than others on the seconde one. But maybe it is the pictures/my eyes.

Yeah I'd bet the hands were relumed on the 2nd one. You certainly have the right mindset, let's way for some more qualified people to comment on these two.

Both for 1500$ would certainly be an excellent deal, but better be safe than sorry. 😉

Pics aren’t great but I don’t see a redial on the first one - would need hi res pics to be sure.
Would like to know if that bright spot is on the dial or crystal.
Case isn’t quite as good as seller says but is quite good.
Needs a service, 45secs/day is poor for a Connie.

Second one is a redial and IIIRC has wrong hands.

First one actually looks quite nice...case is sharp and dial is attractive. Caseback also looks good.

I would stay away from the second...

Again sounds like you folks have saved me from making a bad move, much appreciated. If I make a deal, I'll post the results.

Agree that 1 looks original but 2 is a redial.

For no.1, with original crown, no bracelet and a slightly polished case I'd say around $900 on eBay.

Watch number one would be closer to $1200-1500 in a no reserve auction. Really getting hard to find much decent for under $1000.

Well my first offer didn't get accepted, we will see how it plays out. As with many important decisions in life, my motto is "it's not the last one and it's not the best one." I may hold out for an example with arrowhead markers, but the combination of dogleg lugs, piepan dial and arrowhead markers seems to be rare (nonexistent?)

Nonexist.

Example 1 looks nice. I'd pursue it...
