I can understand why you would be concerned, but fortunately this is just the JP-2 variant bezel and the transitional font. It was used in the second production run for a limited time. A shot of the inner caseback would confirm this. Personally, I would have held out for one in better condition.
I think that's the Stegosaurus limited edition and it appears original. It's collectible, but the one that you really want is the T-Rex eating the lawyer dial. That one is worth serious money.
Hey, wait a minute, are those PALM FRONDS behind the dinosaur!?! 😲
It had come to Rolex’s attention that the PALM FRONDS could be mistaken to be a Rolex product, despite this watch pre-dating the iconic and beloved Rolex PALM FRONDS Datejust- thus, you will be receiving legal notice from Rolex of your infringement and all watches with PALM FRONDS must be destroyed regardless the year of production.
Hard to tell. If it is it’s a very good one. On the other hand I’m fairly sure that bezel is a factory replacement which at least tells you that one of the previous owners had it properly serviced.
But anyway, what the hell? If you like it, go for it and enjoy wearing it.
