If I recall correctly, @Spacefruit was specifically referring to the engraved Base 1000 bezels off of the 2915. My interest in posting that specific one was that if put in a retainer ring, I'm not sure from pictures alone how you would determine if it were genuine or replica. Obviously it is being sold as a replica, but I was just trying to see if there was anything that I was missing regarding it that unequivocally and observably separated it from a genuine one.

This one is really easy to determine as a fake as there are two glaring errors that I see:

The one above that I linked to and @oddboy posted? Not nearly as easy to spot as being replica.

you may not get an answer here on all the tells as that enables the makers of these to refine them further... but maybe someone will chime in.

Oh of course - this makes sense. I actually hadn't really considered that - I was more concerned about not getting burned if I ever decided to buy a period correct replacement bezel for my 145.022-76.

aftermarket bezel:
Doesn't look "glossy and reflective finish" like the description says. Just a bait and switch like most knocked-offs.

aftermarket bezel:

real bezel (from speedmaster101)

I did buy one of these from this seller, via his eBay listing. The insert that I received is totally unlike the one pictured and is detailed, with my photographs in another thread. As a point of principle I had a prolonged argument with the seller, demanding that he supply the insert shown in his advert, or, give me a full refund. After a number of months I have eventually got a full refund. If ever a correct, aftermarket insert did exist that seller certainly can't supply it.

This is what I received:

Ugh - so exactly like the one I posted above, and absolutely not correct. Well good to know!

Here is the question, if a DON in very nice condition is bringing approximately $2,000 plus, what is a DNN original in mint shape worth?

Yes, that is a DNN with tall TACHYMETRE letters, and dropped serif on the 70. This bezel is correct for later 145.022-69’s and later up to approximately 1990.

I was going to say that the thin font DNN, which is similar to the font on the DON bezel, is earlier than the fat font DNN; but after reviewing every pictures in this thread again, I personally think it is a difference in the bezel maker and not the time period. Wow, it is hard to keep up with the minute variations.

Thin font vs fat font

Brilliant pic for comparison purposes. I've never been able previously to see clearly how things differ. And, by the way, two superb watches - thanks.
