Display caseback on 1960s Seamaster

So earlier this year I bought my first vintage watch - a crosshair 165.002 Seamaster. Absolutely love the watch.

However, I’ve always wanted a watch with display caseback but the none of my two Omegas (the vintage Seamaster and a FOIS) had it (it wasn’t a deal breaker not to have it of course).

I first looked into a display caseback for the FOIS but did not have any luck, nor did I had any success with vintage Omegas. HOWEVER, when I was browsing yahoo.jp auction the other day for deals on a Grand Seiko, I found a seller that sells custom display caseback for the GS. I got curious and clicked into store and to my surprise I found a display caseback for 166.002, but nothing for 165.002. After a bit of research I decided to take a leap of faith and went it as it seems like the only difference between the two is the date complication and case should be identical.

2 weeks of wait and the package turned up at work this morning. Got home, and nervously opened up my Seamaster caseback, quickly compared the two caseback and they seem like the same size.

And next minute, VOILA!

Very nice but that isn’t a 135.002 or 136.002. Those are manual wind. Yours has a rotor so something isn’t right.

It looks very nice, and is a particularly attractive dial combo too. Bravo.

Great looking watch! 5 years later after your post I'm looking for a sapphire caseback too for ref. 165.002. The yahoo.co.jp is not available any more in Europe after 2022. Do you still have by any chance email / other contact data to supplier?
