Does Omega have a specified tolerance for chrono hand alignment @Archer?

I know the OP is getting pelters for this but I have to say, if it were mine, I wouldn’t be satisfied with it and I would be seeking to get it adjusted.

Very unlikely that it moved once it weas installed. They are put on very tightly, so unless this was some form of defective hand, I doubt that is what happened.
Is the "misalignment" of hands within Omega's specifications (as the OP said Omega claimed in the original post)?

Edit: @Davidt beat me to it!

Yes, there is a tolerance. Simply put, if you draw a line down the exact center of the 12 marker, the chronograph hand can be off either side of that line by the width of the very tip of the hand.

So if for example the hand is off to the left of the centerline, as long as the right edge of that hand's very tip is touching that line, it's considered within tolerance.

To put that into a concrete number, I just used a micrometer to measure the very tip of a typical Speedmaster Pro hand, and it is 18/100ths of a mm wide, which is about the same as the thickness of the hand as well. So the tolerance is a little les than +/- 1/5th off a mm.

Note that this check would be done with the movement outside of the case to eliminate error from the crystal.

Thanks Al. With all the hearsay and opinions it’s good to understand what Omega considers acceptable.

My 2 week old Speedy.

Which is the truly accurate photo?
It’s no wonder to me why Omega suggests it may be parallax. But then again they offered to resolve your complaint via warranty.
I’m truly sorry you are disappointed with your purchase and happy you have found a way forward that makes you content. I’m just not sure what your intent is here. Most people have said that they are satisfied with their purchases and with Omega in general. Extended service times are not just a Swatch issue. Rolexes can take months and months to be returned. Even in local watchmaker shops take 8-10 weeks for simple adjustments.

This is why the check is done with the movement out of the case. When the watch is fully assembled, I find it is better to look down the length of the hand from the bottom (6 o'clock side) and sort of sight down the hand to get a better idea of the alignment.

I've serviced hundreds of these, and there are occasionally times when I look at a hand that I swore I put spot on, and it looks off to one side depending on how I hold the completed watch in my hand.

I always look forward to your insights. Thanks for sharing your time and knowledge.

This is a weird way to market a used watch for sale. Remember kids, buy the seller.

One of my four 3861s. I’m not stressing over it. Haven’t looked at the other three yet.

And this is after running the chrono and resetting. Same offset but to the other side. This thread is getting about like the snoopy thread.

$7,000 dollar watches aren't luxury, that's just a fact of economics. Omega can say they are 'high grade and precise' but with high automation and their production level they can't spend a lot of time on each watch making sure it is 'perfect'. They are built to a cost. Either accept that or move on to a digital smart watch. I know someone who bought a Roger Smith tourbillion/perpetual calendar pocket watch, a true hand made watch. Perfection is the name of the game at this level. Shortly after receiving it the watch stopped, a screw in the tourbillon mechanism had fallen out and jammed the movement. Back to the Isle of Man it went where it was quickly attended to, Roger said he didn't use enough loctite on the screw when he assembled it. "Sorry about that. It won't happen again." The world is never precise when it comes to man made items, no matter how much care is taken. Either accept that or you'll be perpetually unhappy and unsatisfied, not a good way to go through life.
Oh, thank you for the economics lecture, Professor Wristwatch. You really cracked the code - luxury now officially begins at Roger Smith or bust. Appreciate you enlightening all the poor, deluded souls who thought a $7,000 Omega might still qualify as a premium product.

And spare me the “nothing’s perfect” sermon. No one here demanded quantum-level precision - just that the second hand hits the second marker on a watch marketed as Master Chronometer Certified. If expecting basic alignment is “perpetually unhappy,” then maybe the bar’s been set a little too low on your end.

Is Terry short for Terrence, Teresa or perhaps Karen? If you are daft enough to take a ~$3k hit because of a misplaced sense of entitlement and indignation then good luck to you. That’ll show em’ Perhaps the pugnacious approach is a way to generate enough posts to make it to 200 and list the watch here. Have another log on the fire from me in that case as I’ll happily take it off you for peanuts.
Cute theory, but I don’t need to generate posts or take a loss to entertain you. If you think calling people “Karen” passes for wit, you’ve probably been staring at your own reflection on the caseback too long.

I’ll manage fine without your charity offer - though it’s touching how eager you are to scoop up something “beneath your standards” for peanuts. Says a lot more about you than about me.

This is a very common theme with this kind of poster. They need validation and when they don't get it, we are all brand shills, or not discerning enough, or whatever. It happens over and over again...

Ah yes, the classic “everyone who disagrees with me must be emotionally needy” take. You guys recycle that line like it’s a personality.

It’s funny how the same handful of people who accuse others of needing validation are the first ones to form a little support group every time someone challenges their groupthink. Maybe look in the mirror before diagnosing others - the projection’s getting a little obvious.

Enough of the counterpunching.
What have you decided to do?

You say this, but the majority of your posts here and at WUS are exactly that...even the one 2 before this...

We get it, you are unhappy. Your fight is not with us, but with Omega, and they capitulated - congrats, you won!

Still waiting to hear back with the details on what the repair would actually involve and how we’d move forward if I decide to go that route.

Yeah, you “get it” so well you had to write a paragraph proving you don’t.

I’m not “fighting” anyone - I raised a QC concern and Omega agreed to review it. That’s literally how customer service works. Sorry if watching someone handle an issue like an adult makes you uncomfortable.

Guess they don’t handle a little disagreement well over there - kind of tracks with what we’ve seen here, doesn’t it?
