maybe rising from the ashes?

Apple sold 17 million watches in 2017, the year after this thread was started. The question to me, is overtaken in what way? Total sales? By dollar amount or by volume? They left Rolex in the dust long ago if that's the case. As I stated in another thread, when it comes to watches, I see the majority of people not wearing one at all. Those that are, at least 50% are Smart watches, and of Smart watches, 75% or more are Apple. Hell, my wife owns one and has no interest in a standard watch at all.

@larryganz wears both an Apple Watch and a “proper” watch at the same time if I recall a previous post of his.

I’d assume it’s a list of the biggest sellers, so watch buyers, probably.

It's not a subjective list, but rather ordered by size, or perhaps value.
"Previously, he said, Apple had been the second biggest watchmaker in the world, behind Rolex.

Now, he claimed, it had risen to the number one position."

Now that Gen3 is out and saving lives, does that make my Gen1 an Apple vintage? I mean, mine is two generations apart from the current model 😁

Yeah, sure. The problem is electronics mostly go down in value when they get old, unless you have something the geek collectors like.

I'm just grateful that I won't be around to witness a future generation gushing over vintage Apple watches from the "golden age."

Instead of “unpolished case, original dial”, it will be “original non updated software”.

A few comments below...

1. Health monitoring can be achieved by a simpler wearable device / strap focused on just that aspect as well as having an extended battery life (using heat from your body / solar etc.). You don't need an Apple Watch for that use case and there is an untapped market of billions of people in the world who cannot afford to jump on the Apple Watch 2-3 year subscription business model. I use the word "subscription" because Apple forces early obsolesence of its products. A wearable health monitoring device always on / waterproof / forget you are wearing it at all at a significant lower price point will reduce demand for the Apple Watch and will also be important for elderly patients at any social level with early onset of dementia.

2. From a luxury watch perspective the recent recovery / strong results in 2017-2018 have shown that the AW and mechanical watches priced US$2-3K - US$100K are distinct markets. The AW does not bring any emotional connection with the client, it has become a boring ubiquitous product that every Joe / Sharon has...all the novelty and cool factor of early user adoption has faded.

3. I will probably purchase a Tag-Heuer connected 41mm this year for the following reasons:

- I think it will be fun.
- I am very much into F1 and still see Tag-Heuer being my watch reference with F1 (Ayrton Senna / Mclaren). I think a F1 watch should have a strong tech component as part of its DNA.
- I like the simulated Carrera dials that you can have on the watch and the dial is always on in a simplified form (I simply hate the empty black dial faces on the AW).
- At 41mm it is has become wearable.
- I work with technology / engineering and I feel that in certain situations dealing with client lower management staff, having a tech product on your wrist is socially more engaging than a Reverso or BLNR.

I will probably always travel with a mechanical watch as well as I don't want to depend on the smartwatch battery life which will suck...I know it will and I don't care too much.

And because every thread needs pictures:

Most photos from Tag-Heuer but the wrist shots are from this nice polish site I have discovered CH24.PL (can't understand a word, but the photos are good😀)

If Alain Silberstein wasn't involved in the design of this, he should have sued Apple's arse off for that one...

As someone who owns a gen 0 and a Gen 3 ceramic white edition, I think you'll be very disappointed going the TAG Heuer connected route unless you're an Android user in which case you're probably already used to disappointment 😁

Happy owner of a Galaxy S8 and a Vaio Z Flip notebook (Made in Japan) with I7 CPU, 16 GB RAM, Iris 550 graphics and 512GB SSD.😀

The way my wife curses with very 😡IOS upgrade to her Iphone and IPad😡 I prefer to "suffer" with my "disappointing Android/Windows" experience as you put it.🙄

Am I right in assuming that your almost religious devotion to over hyped Chinese manufactured products means that you will soon be adding one of these to your watch collection some time soon?😁
