Dial Sizes of Speedmasters?

I've gotten conflicting information about the dial size on different Speedys. What's the real deal?

Reduced (39mm)?
Original (40mm)?
Pro (42mm)?
2017 Models (44.25mm)?

I'm not looking for exact dimensions of the dials, just what models have the same face sizes.

Are you asking dial diameter or case diameter?

Im curious - why the concern about dial size specifically?

Dial size is more important to me than case size. I don't give a crap about the case size as my wrist is big enough to support anything. But for legibility the face size is important.

You listed case diameters, not dial diameters.
I know the case sizes. What I don't know is the dial size. I'm asking which models I listed have the same face size, and if possible what exact size that is.

If certain people with a soup bowl on their head in hostile conditions could read it, it should serve the purpose for you too 😀

Fair enough. FWIW, my I find Speedy Pro to be the most legible watch I've ever owned. My brain for whatever reason usually takes a split second to register the time on a watch, but for some reason it feels as though it's quicker for me with my Speedy.

If legibility is what you're after, and your wrist can accommodate it, you should have a look at the modern Railmaster XL (not my picture). 49mm case that's mostly dial and they can be had for a song on the used market. Big and bold and clear as day:

It's not this complicated. I want to know the size of the FACE of various SPEEDMASTERS. I could strap a 75-inch wall clock to my wrist if I really needed the legibility. Do a Flavor Flav kind of thing. I just want to know the dimensions of the faces of Speedmasters. Folks either don't know and refuse to admit it, or it's information so sensitive it's guarded by the NSA using 2048-bit Vernam encryption. Like KFC's chicken recipe.😁

Mental note - don't be friendly and offer alternatives to those who hate people with soup bowls on their head. Live and learn 📖

Sorry for overestimating your abstraction abilities! And now go and...google yourself the dialsize.

It's not that complicated to do your own research and find out the answer yourself. By research I mean understand what Speedmasters have certain movements and the differences in case elements which will then give you the answer you're asking for.

Dial size is not the only design element that determines legibility, and "legibility" is a purely subjective notion. Your best option is to try on as many Speedies as possible of all sizes and see which ones you can adequately "see."

I don't even know the meaning of "people with soup bowls on their heads." But I'm pretty sure I don't like them. 😁

Astronaut helmets are called "soup bowls"??? I would not have guessed that in a million years. I'm half convinced you're just pranking me! Or even the skull caps that keep their hair out of the way - sounds crazy to me, but what do I know? I've never even wanted to to fly, let alone leave the planet's atmosphere.

I think people are upset, as if you had done even minimal research 2 of the 4 options clearly have the same dial. And you have already been told that.

Also as it has been brought to your attention in other threads, what you want to know means nothing in how a watch looks. It only has something to do with making the parts.

Speedy Date at 40mm on paper matches a reduced... look totally different. I'd venture the 3313 POC dial is smaller then a speedy pro but the dial looks way bigger. Due to the more close set subdials due to smaller movements on a 45.5 mm watch.

Due to this not mattering at all the data you want is not out there in a clear chart form as no one cares. As I also said clearly basic research would tell you 1 is larger, 1 is smaller, 2 are the same.

Now THAT'S the kind of answer I was asking about! Thank you!! It's not out there, so that's that and a little project of mine goes by the wayside. No big deal really. Case closed (no pun intended).

Perhaps if you told us why you wanted to know we could help better. If you want to swap dials on watches the best way to go about it is the same movement can take the same dials. At least that's a start.

If you want to know how large a watch wears on a wrist dial size has little to do with it. Lug width, lug to lug distance, height of the watch, and overall proportions are much bigger factors.

Example 3313 and 9300 POC's on paper and in pictures look identical at 45.5. Put both on and the 3313 tends to wear a lot smaller due to dial design and height of the watch.
