So, for those who were fans, the finale they had back in 2013 was pretty much universally panned. I wasn't too happy with it at the time, but in preparation for the new season that started last night, I watched the last episode again, and I viewed it more favourably now than I did then.

The first episode of this new season, many years later, started off slow and a bit strange, before picking up near the end. No spoilers, but liking what I'm seeing so far.

If anyone else watched, what did you think?

Cheers, Al

Looking forward to this. Season 2 was perfect, IMO. Never got to see the last episodes of the last season as it just went in a direction I didn't like.

Was a big fan until the last season, felt like they tried to wrap it up too quickly. At least they didn’t screw the pooch as horribly as Lost did where everyone just said- WTF?!
Interested to see what the new season holds.

Because of the way they went the last season, I've kind of been on the fence about even giving this new season a go.

I liked Season 1 and 2 but Dexter became less interesting when the writers tried to humanize him from his purely psychopathic behaviour (remember Dexter was raising a child alone? Good grief...). The last few seasons were dreadful. Michael C Hall appeared to lose interest towards the end.

For me it started to kinda drift when Dexter got married. You could tell that they tried to correct course with the John Lithgow season but it never really felt like it got back on track.

Totally agree with this. My wife and I used to joke that after a couple of seasons Dexter's complex personality could be summed up as "I don't feel any emotions and that makes me sad".

Kinda of a dud. Guess highlight was Dexter’s new assumed name.

of course his new woman looked like his sister. Sicko

Predictable. We will see how it developes.

How did Harrison find him?

Sadly don’t have show time. Wife wants Disney, I’m clinging to Apple TV which she wants to dump for Disney. With Netflix, HBO, Paramount, Showtime is a bridge too far. She’s already written the new Dexter off. It’s gotten mixed reviews. We were huge fans.

Right now, blasting through S5 of Breaking Bad. Might put us both off TV for a while as we recover from PTSD.

Man, that's a commitment. It's like eighty or ninety hours of programming.

I just rewatched most of the first 9 seasons; the Lithgow season was the last really good one. As most here argue, Dexter became pretty flat in the last couple of seasons, although I formed new respect for Hanks-the-younger’s acting as the Doomsday killer.

I just watched the first new episode. Harry’s code now includes douchy yahoos who wantonly kill majestic, innocent beasts. That’s fine! Jim, or Dexter’s ‘first’ kill was obvious from the moment he picked up the skinning knife. You just knew.

The opening was well done, I thought, and painted a good picture: the transformation and presumably seamless integration from a pleasure craft-owning, Miami-living, white collar blood-spatter expert to a cold-climate, backcountry-experienced, average townsperson. The hot sauce squirt on cooking back bacon was pretty clever nod to the opening sequence of the old show. And yes, I am curious as to how Harrison found his dad.

As a side note, Dexter, the son of a former bandmate of mine, has recently turned 14. Clearly, mom and dad were fans of the Ice Truck Killer/Doaks era.

I wouldn't mind having Hanna back to be honest. 😀

So this ended last night. I have to say I really enjoyed it. It has had very good ratings, and one article I read a few weeks ago had wondered if the ratings would have been an incentive for them somehow keep it going, but said that would be a mistake.

Trying to be sensitive to those who might not have seen it yet. With that in mind, what did everyone else think?

In other news, anyone else watching Yellowjackets? I'm loving that one so far...

I enjoyed Dexter New blood, however, although I understand the decision to end the show in the manner in which they did, I wasn't thrilled by the writing leading up to the finale. Many are saying the circumstantial evidence would have never held up in court... who knows, many are disappointed that Batista didn't get to see Dexter again, many are suggesting that Dexter is smarter and wouldn't have made the mistakes, and many have suggested that the actor who played Harrison is a bit stiff.

All and all I enjoyed the latest series and I was a big fan of not only the books but the original series. It's worth watching in my opinion, but, I would have ended it differently.
