Desperate for a Hulk (UK)

hi

So i have been trying for months to get a Hulk, my ad i bought the sub from isnt taking names for the foreseeable as he only gets 1/2 per year and all other ad’s i have visited have closed lists or just fob me off. I would be willing to travel abroad but not pay grey price currently (8-10k). I guess slightly over rrp is ok

Has anyone had any luck with UK ad’s who i can approach to be placed on a list with?

Thanks

Unfortunately without a good buying history at an AD, you do not stand much of a chance at all. Consider this - they sell you that watch, they essentially handed you a hulk with a couple grand in cold hard cash along with it. They use these 116610LV's as pawns. They go to the big buyers. The grey dealers who also purchase unwanted stock. These hulks are not going to you and me. Your best bet is by far biting the bullet and purchasing one second hand. The premium isn't so outrageous that I wouldn't do it, as it is with the Daytona C and the Pepsi C. Second best bet is to stick it out with the dealer you got your Submariner from. You already have purchase history with them which is what they want - a guy who is going to continue to buy. However, it sounds like he already turned you down. I suppose I would rather have an honest "no" than to be led on for years and years. Hope this helps - it's certainly not an ideal situation. Hell, you can't even find ANY SS sports watches in the AD's cases here in the USA lately, forget about a Hulk/BLNR.

This - the cheapest I can see is 9.5k. It’s not outrageous compared to the other hot watches, but it is what it is. RRP is a thing of the past for many of us now, although it’s not clear to me whether the other such as the Pepsi come down to meet this or the hulk rises more.

I remember thinking someone was a Plonker next to me for buying a hulk at 7.7k from watchfinder a year ago. Guess he did ok.

If you really want the watch then the premium is your option and it’s not as bad as some. That or wait a number of years/buy some other stuff you don’t want.

Someone once told me that for all those photos you see on FB or IG where people are buying their Hulks/BLNR in Rolex ADs at RRP, they don't show the Datejusts that they had to buy or the numerous other watches that they have bought in the past to get those watches at RRP.

For me the key is to be loyal to your AD. I bought my YM40 8/2017 wife anniversary gift then decided to purchase the omega moonphase metas 8/2018 then I got offered the BLNR a week after I purchased the omega. Im not sure how accurate but manager from AD said they actually get sub hulk once a month but bcoz of the list is never ending its already allocated to someone and he said its the head office who decide to whom the item goes. I remember when he called me to pick up the batman he said we’ll wait for you bcoz it has your name on it so we cannot sell it to anyone unless I decline to purchase it. Premium here in OZ is still sky high for all hot rolex pieces.

My advice would be that you remove yourself from the Rolex treadmill, take your money and give it to someone else who will do their best not to patronise you, there are plenty of other watches out there more worthy of your hard earned cash than a green sub.

Waiting list but "genuine interest" might help... as shown in this London-based Rolex video

On a waiting list now for three months but no guarantees as to when I will float to the top, also when it does arrive as agreed I will be signing over the papers etc, to the AD for a two year period.
No problem with that arrangement.

Here is a strategy that home buyers are using successfully in our hot real estate market. Write a letter to your AD, showing photos of your family, including your adorable baby (just photoshop fake photos if you don't have one), explaining that your family heirloom Rolex was lost in a horrible fire, in which two of your siblings died, and how it was your father's dying wish (who was a highly decorated military veteran, by the way) that you buy a green Submariner as a new family heirloom so that it can be passed down from generation to generation. 🙄

This +2.

You are a product of exactly what they are trying to do. False sense of exclusivity and creating hype about a watch that may not have even been a big deal if it was released in larger batches.

I just took a look at WatchRecon and there are about 40 for sale, though not many in the UK.

This is exactly what happen with the ceramic SD, released without too much fuss, not sold in great numbers, the model is then discontinued and now it's much sought after with followers willing to pay way over the odds.

This is how it works among all EU countries. Unfortunately, only second hand Rolex is the way to purchase it easily.

I have also been on the hunt for a hulk in the UK and would have to agree with most of the advice echoed here.

I bought an explorer 2 back in July and was allowed on 'the list', for the hulk, by the AD after this. No time frame given and I'm not holding my breath!

In the end I've realised that there are many, many other watches out there, which are equally, or more awesome and this has reduced my fixation.

As others have said, there is always the second hand/grey market if there is truly no other watch that scratches that itch.
