Deployants for Speedy- 16mm vs 18mm- does anyone have a strong preference, if so, why

Considering picking up a deployant clasp that will work with my 1863 (and potentially also my 2nd gen heritage). I kinda get the impression that the prior standard was the 18mm clasp, but the current gen 3861 seems to use a 16mm clasp.

Anyone have strong opinions on which is better?

I have both, no preference. It seems the crowd is moving to the 16mm clasp because it has a bit of taper from the 20mm lug width, and taper seems to be 'in' right now for the vintage feel and look.

I think 16mm is too much taper for a leather strap (bracelet I don't mind) on the Speedmaster, I prefer 18mm:

Hi Evitzee

What brand is the black with red stripes strap?

Thank you

My preference is 18mm. I prefer bracelets to taper 20 to 16 while straps to have little to no taper 20 to 18. Also, Omega has more OEM straps that are 20 to 18 vs 20 to 16. If you go custom then it doesn't really matter. You can get whatever you want made.
