I would assume the deposit is fully refundable...or at least I would hope so. I would need to view, touch, put on the watch before purchase. But then again if money didn't matter I would just sneeze $5k from my bum.

I think this is a terrible practice of taking deposits before the watch has even been announced.

Agree. At least with the last few special editions, the details have been disclosed.

Just like the online reservations before making any financial deposit......oh....nevermind.......

Yeah don’t worry. I hate that too. In fact I detest the whole online reservation system. It keeps crashing, hopeless to spend longer than a single second picking a number and it’s like a bank holiday for greys. The crashing system part is by far the most infuriating.

I have a feeling this is less of a "take money before the watch is announced" thing, and more of a "let's get our most dedicated fans onboard early so they don't miss out". Omega isn't advertising this or even letting ADs know - it's just the Boutiques who are contacting known Speedmaster nuts to get in early. I have a feeling the 50th is going to end up becoming a very hot watch in 2019 (afterwards, who knows) and I think they're just trying to give the serious collectors a heads up.

Don’t Omega/ads know who their collectors are?

They have a vip list like anyone else and a “you’re known to us” list. It seems somewhat redundant to me. Unless of course you’re typically buying profile is vintage only.

I'm quite a Speedy fan, but I'm not putting down a deposit without knowing what I'm signing on for. Seems crazy to me.

A deposit without knowing the sales price doesn't make sense indeed

I have asked my OB too. They are not taking any money in advance for an unannounced watch. They have a waitlist though....but no money exchange so far.

The deposit is refundable if you decide not to purchase the watch.

I was explicitly told by the manager at my OB that the difference would be either refunded if lower or charged if higher.

😕
Do You really believe that passionate Omega collectors & spaceflight aficionados are known to Omega?
They certainly have a VIP list and know a bunch of high end clients but Speedmaster fans Jan & John who bought a Speedmaster each time it got an alteration aren't known at all... Best way might to be inscribed on the Omega mailing list via their website.
Less than 100 days away from the year 2019, Omega fans have to consider whether or not to go for the 50 year Apollo 11 limited edition and consider if their hard earned cash could better go the real thing, being a 105.012 or a 145.022 of the Apollo era. 🙄

Only three editions?? Seriously Omega... I am shocked. They launched 5 alone to celebrate that the 2020 Omympics are freckin’ two years away. I had expected at least 7 limited editions for the moon landing 50th birthday 🤪

Surely eleven (XI) LEs would be the way to go?

Sneaky way for Omega to get capital without having to pay interest
Or maybe Omega is trying to raise the brand into Patek territory.
