If it's the one that had replica in the title, well we don't discuss that kind of thing on this forum, it's in the rules.

I can see why this topic is controversial, I personally found it interesting and informative. To see how easily these are replicated was eye popping.

I’ve closely followed the Rolex replica phenomenon, specifically the near perfect dial and case replicas out of Vietnam. it’s been well chronicled on other forums to raise awareness.

I guess I’ll need to tune to another channel to follow the Speedy replica evolution....

The line is blurry to me. Aldo's bezel inserts are fine. What's the difference?

I think there were some decent points made though - why are we very supportive of bracelets being remanufactured to ‘close to’ vintage specs., and or newer 6s.

Full disclosure - I have bought from Forstner, uncle Seiko and have a set of 6s(and I would buy a bezel from him). We all can tell the difference with the repro 6s. I suppose I’m trying to understand what the underlying objection is?

As I see it l, there’s a potential market for him - and per my comment I think he was taken aback by support from many of us.

Perhaps this is where "replica" and "reproduction" need some clarification. One is designed to deceive. One is designed to fulfill a need for aftermarket parts.

He seemed like a clever hobbyist to me, and to my memory he claimed to just be making one for himself. But others might know otherwise.

Selling as original Omega?
If the insert is no longer available, I'm still confused the difference between this and Aldo's reproduction. Is it because Speedmasters are off limits and the Seamasters aren't?

There is no controversy here at all. The asshole was selling fake bezels.
I see his IG now, I understand why the thread as deleted. He was clearly soliciting.

I guess he created an instagram account 3 days ago talking about the "bespoke fading" and all 12 of his posts are written/geared towards selling. So it seems as if his thread from the other day was getting an idea of how many would be interested in purchasing. But written as "I am a hobbyist that created something fun."

Other posts of his include wording like "So glad I can offer this to the community" "eye catching for every collector around the world" "I can make it happen" "hand made DON replica that offers you aesthetics of the beloved DON at a fraction of the market price." and so on. These are all posts from several days ago. So, it seems like his original thread had an agenda.

That would definitely not be in the spirit of this forum. Has he been removed as a user? Or just his thread deleted? Either way, he got the job done of getting his word out 😬

Thats what happens, when models go up in price. The hunting season is open. Ask vintage Rolex....he was pretty good in the replica bezel. And the UV trick is good ! So, never tried to deceive. Unless many others.....rgd. early Speedmasters : bezels are widely reproduced. Covered here a lot. Crystals with the omega sign in the middle are reproduced in Portugal. Everything stainless can be copied perfectly via CNC today. Micro welding. Lapidating. Small 4 mm pushers caps a while now. The pusher base not so much..... early crowns no idea. Hands: yes. Dials: I suspect that as well; have not seen an early one with oval O in Omega so far. But Vietnam is listening. They conquered Rolex. They will conquer omega. We have to live with that. The specialists here are very knowledgeable. The Auction houses not so much . It is just a question of time. Therefore I think, driving somebody away from here with the UV trick and best intentions in the beginning will not stop things. Price wise omega still has a long way to go before entering Rolex territory replicas . But it has started. Keep safe out there. Kind regards. Achim

I thought we were moving him away from reproducing DON's and other pieces. There was nudging to doing non-standard bezels with a tell outside of the UV marking.

It's not much different than the 1171 bracelets.

Hi all, seems like the thread was removed by the mods. It wasn’t created by me btw, I just catched up on it.
Again, understand that it looks weird to go from initial post to IG channel within 3 days but you can all make a wild guess how many PMs I received just after 1h of posting this.
No bad intentions with this but I guess I will pull myself out of the discussions since I want to remain a member here and the topic is clearly not welcome on the forum.

If it wasn't you then it was only a matter of time before it would be someone else creating it.

Still. You crossed a line for me. The distance between a hobbyist making a one off for themselves and selling as many as the market will take is vast. It smells deceptive.

The fact that you purposely nicked them in just the right way to make them appear authentic, that is designed to be deceive the viewer. It is deceptive by nature.

When you suddenly posted that you had the clever idea to add uv to identity the false bezel, I was struck when reading the original post by how quickly you had done that. In retrospect it appears that you had already conceived that and the whole thread was staged.

You may say that you are only providing a product and not forcing people to use, but that sounds similar to other suppliers of contraband.

Science can produce many marvelous creations. Some creations should not be made, even though they can be. But the genie is out of bottle and it is hard not to hold at fault the person who rubbed the lamp.
