Dating an UG buckle

Hi, how would you date this 16mm UG buckle? Asking here because I have read and seen how many experts use this forum.

The reason why earlier threads didn't help me out on dating this is that this buckle has totally straight edge on the outer logo side. Usually what I have seen have had a slight curvature/slanting on that edge.

One way is to find period advertising for reference, if possible.

UG "mixed and matched" the various different logo types during the 60s and 70s, especially.

Good luck

I'd probably start by dressing up nicely, then bringing flowers when I picked it up. After that, a gentle drive to a nice but not too nice restaurant, order a bottle of wine, and hopefully have a lovely conversation. If all went well when we got back to the buckle's house, ....

...there's a "spring bar tool" joke in here.

Thanks for the tip. Yeah, have been doing some of that. Currently it seems it's either from late 50s or early 70s.

So I'm hoping if someone here would know more precisely based on the stamps.

I'm sure someone will comment.

I recommend wearing and enjoying it! Do you have a UG for it?

I'm not sure we have definite dating info on these buckles. The biggest first concern often is the buckle factory or repro, cause there are a lot of fakes floating around. I don't know all the tells on the repros, @CafeRacer might be able to weigh in....
The U shield logo was used in the 50s thru the 70s for buckles I think?

Thanks, will do. Though my first UG (1961 Polerouter) is still waiting for my offer to be accepted by the seller. I have other vintage watches from -50s to -70s (Longines, Omega), but really waiting to add some UGs to that collection.

Yes, absolutely, getting some experienced people to weigh in on the genuine or fake issue would be very helpful, thanks.

For me it appears to be of high quality, but I'm far from an expert regarding these 😅.

I think there are both flat and rounded style, and my guess would be yours is authentic, but let's see what Adam says......

I never saw any of these from the marketing scans from UG. So unless these are from the 50s, which i am not knowledgeable about, i don't believe they're real. The 60s version is rounded on top. The 70s version is flat on the top, but it'll have little dimples inside the U.

Ah, that's unfortunate if it's not genuine. I found this 1972 adverticement that seems to have identical one, but maybe it's too low resolution to show the dimples or other differences.

Then I found this post showing -50s Polarouter buckle (attached to other strap on the photo and fake, non attached Italian one beside it) that's close, but logo sits lower.

If it were mine, I'd wear and enjoy. If i ever sold it, I'd disclose that authenticity is unknown.

And if you don't want it, I've got a nice green Queen Liz with your name on it, plus shipping.
