Just got one with clasp band. Very nice but I am concerned with the sound of 9300 calibre. It sounds a little 'scratchy' when it spins. It's also quite loud, I can hear it on my wrist when I'm working at my desk for example.

Here is a video of the sound.

Is this normal? I have not had a speedmaster before. My old Seamaster Chrono 300m never made noise like this. (Although I did feel that get spin wobble sometimes)

Stop shaking that watch! is not a pair of maracas!!! 😁 My 9300 makes similar sound...but in a more mild way.

All 9300s I've had sound pretty much like that. I think some case materials will amplify the sound differently. If you wear the watch you should not notice it. I will give Rolex the benefit of the doubt for making the whitest winding noise lol.

The only time I notice the rotor spinning on my Speedy '57 is if it is within 6 inches of an ear. I don't think the sound your rotor is scratchy at all, it's just the rotational weight against the ball bearings. Chalk it up to one of the sweet sounds a automatic mechanical movement makes!

I have not ever heard my speedy day date , or my po (2500) spin, I had a pam359 (p9000) and could hear it a cross the room, panerai said was normal, and it kept good time so it did not bother me in the long run, but the first time I heard it I was like wtf..

Yeah its not as easy to get a full spin as you would think!
I know its not recommended to shake it like that but if a $12K watch breaks after a bit of vigorous movement, it ain't worth $12k!

It's funny this should come up today. I have three watches with Calibre 8500 movements and have never heard the slightest sound from the rotor. After showering this morning, however, I was drying my head vigorously with a towel and heard a subtle yet mildly startling sound coming from my SMP 300M (Calibre 2500). After gripping and isolating all the bracelet links I shook the watch again (not particularly hard) and was pretty sure I heard the rotor spinning inside the case. I tried the same experiment with my $60 Vostok watch and got a similar result. I can't say I was overly worried by this, but it certainly got my attention. My lack of concern might be due to the fact that my SMP is still under warranty.

The 8500 uses a jewel bearing like Rolex 3135. Those are a lot quieter then ball bearing rotors on large movements like the 9300.

I think quite some calibers have a very characteristic behavour:

just think about the extreme wobble of a Valjoux 7750 (at least as used in Breitling chronos) ....

I can sometimes "flick" my wrist and accelerate the excenter weight to a degree that the whole watch dances for 10 secs on my arm ...

(yes, sometimes I do get bored at the office ;-)

unfortunately IWC took half the fun out of it with their "take" on the 7750 - the IWC 729 does nothing like that 😒

Yup bidirectional winding kills the flying rotor. The omega 9300 uses a heavy Tungsten rotor also.

My DSOTM sound like that too.. just a little bit quieter.
I feel that the crown is quite stiff when you try to hand wound it. Are yours is also like that ?
