This is hardly out of people's comfor zone. Just whats the point if the purchase price + repair is more than the value of the finished watch, unless it's rare or has sentimental value?

Bingo.

As a veteran of several project watches and complete restorations I can say with 100% surety that it's cheaper to just buy a mint version than to try to bring even a substandard watch up to that condition, let alone this deformed specimen.

Wow, I didn't "f蠀ck" was a regular use of expression on this forum. But I guess it is ok.

My reply to your response is, if you do not like the content on a thread.. then dont respond or don't "f蠀ck" with it for other people.. move on!

Let other folks learn about values.. Not your Opinion!

Sounds like this is getting personal with you. Why, because you may not be right..

First, we're all adults here. Don't pretend you haven't heard the word before. 馃槈

Second, the thread is asking for opinions so opinions are given. We don't pull punches. 馃お 馃槣

I agree with the option to buy a mint condition

However, this deformed specimen offers value to valued investors trying to find

I agree we are all adults but we can discuss in an adult manner and "f蠀ck" is childish and foolish in "adult discussions" but whatever.. I will however refrain from it from herein. No need for that.

I agree it is all opinions.

As to your previous comment that you can buy a mint condition watch for less does not make sense. Apples and Oranges. If you want to buy a mint condition watch, that is another story. This is not it!

But if you want to buy a project watch and bring up to standards for less, that is something else...

Apples and Oranges? Uh, no - it's a rotten Apple versus a freshly picked perfect Apple.

The point is that a project like this invariably costs more than just buying a like-new example. I know because I've done it a dozen times with watches that have parts easier to find and less expensive than Rolex.

I've also done it dozen times (+). I do not want to argue with you about trying to talk about the invariable costs than just buying a like new example. Two whole different animals!

But having a watch brought up to standards, call it a beater watch. who would not want that for less money!

Getting this watch running even with a trashed dial will likely cost more then a working beater example. Unless someone saw it in person and saw something not visible in the pics there is nothing cheap about the final price.

How do you see this as a cheap entry to a working watch?

Based on someone not seeing this in person..

Mid-case value - $2.5-3.5 (if red dial range - Add $300-500 +)
Caseback - $500-700
Movement - $1,200 +
Bezel - $300-500
Bezel Insert - $400-600
Dial/Hands/date disk - $600-1,000
Bracelet clasp - $150-250
Bracelet endlinks - $100-200 (580s, that would be nice!)
Bracelet links - $200-400+

Do the math in parts... Again, just putting things in perspective..

Not a bad investment at $4.3..

True words. I know this to be true, as that was my experience on the first, second, third project watch. Sad thing is I knew it was true before the first project watch 馃榾

Hey guys,

Don't know too much about Rolex watches, have been more drawn to omegas (mostly due to price!). But i saw this watch come up for auction at a local house and was wondering how 'damaged' you thought it was just from this picture. I would ask for more photos but the bidding begins soon online!

*Bonus inclusion* Comes with the scorched skeleton it was attached to!

$2.5 - $3.5 or more a mid case? What if it's a 4m serial which makes it a service case? Value = $0.
Bezel, hands, dial shot.
Any damage to the movement? No idea? How can you then assume $1200 for it.
Even if you don't have RSC look at it, a regular service from a regular watchmaker starts at AUD $800. I think it may cost a little more to put this ugly duckling back together.
$4300 for absolute junk.
Sorry to be so blunt but you are making absolutely no sense.

What if..
What if it is actually a GMT case instead of a Sub case..
What if there isn't a movement in it..
LOL
