CYMA Navystar (found in OP shop). Worth getting serviced?

Hi Omega Forum,

I found this CYMA Navystar in a local OP shop for $20 (AUD).

I think its a cool watch and would like to get in running again but wanted some input from the OF community if its actually worth getting serviced.

From my untrained eye I would say that:
1. the case is polished
2. the dial is damaged
3. the crown is not original
4. the movement seems correct

Thanks in advance.

Cyma has many fans here but this one is quite toast. The biggest drawback is that damaged dial. If you want a project watch, this is a project watch which will require time and patience. I’d personally pass as you could find a better example in better shape.

The bottom line is just because something is cheap doesn’t mean you’re necessarily getting a bargain. Plenty of other fish in the sea.

No problem mate. I speak from experience of dealing with these types of project watches that they ultimately become taxing. You’ll find something eventually 👍

For AUD$20 you got a nice caliber R459 movement. I would have bought it just for that.

Got agree with that, as the years go by getting spares for vintage watches especially some of the more collectable ones will become rarer and rarer, even now I find great difficulty in getting replacement parts for many of the watches I collect.

I really like Cyma. I think they are vastly underated but I wouldn't have that one restored. I would have definitely bought it for that price though for parts alone.
