Customized watch cabinet

As what is almost certainly my best holiday gift ever, my partner sourced a mid-century dresser, restored it, and customized it into a watch-cabinet and workstation. This involved the usual sanding and re-staining, along with laboriously cleaning the brass pulls (which were black as pitch on arrival_, installing a massive removable watch tray for the collection, and, as a final touch, sourcing vintage jeweler's trays for the top drawers. And all this was done by someone with no experience of furniture restoration!

In the midst of me falling over myself to thank her for this extraordinary treasure, she realized that she had miscalculated the number of watches I own. Being a German philosopher, she apologized for this oversight, and vowed to rectify it immediately 馃榾

This is a piece of vintage photographic equipment--for looking at negatives. It was a gift from my mate, whom I inducted into the tribe of watch-collectors some seven years ago.

While this is a more curious animal. The goose-neck and magnifying glass are vintage Japanese optics from the 1970s. The base looks more like Sheffield ironware to me, possibly from an earlier period, subsequently repurposed to use as a base for the optics. No idea what "Beauty House" was <shrug>.

Very nice. I did slightly LOL because I'm struggling with the idea of buying a fourth watch, and then I saw your collection.

To paraphrase Lao Tzu, the journey of 1000 vintage watches begins with a single purchase from an OF member.
