New member Giuliano introduced himself here: http://omegaforums.net/threads/the-great-big-introductions-thread.20/page-36#post-110821 Roger recommended him so I figured I'd try a blue leather strap for my 38.5 mm Skyfall AT. Decided to go with an 18 mm buckle width since it has 19 mm lugs. Here's the first pic: He's making it a custom length with only 5 mm gaps between the tang holes. Since my wrist is between a short and medium strap length, I gave Giuliano the lengths for each side based on what I had made for other slightly smaller watches, less a few mm on either side to account for the larger diameter of the AT. Can't wait to see how this looks! Gotta buy an 18 mm Ω buckle now.
I think you are making a mistake here. I don't believe Smurf hide is thick enough to hold up for very long. If you want some similar but much stronger (and perhaps more attractive), I would suggest you consider Na'vi hide. Sure it is off world expensive, but it looks great and is super flexible.
I though the same thing by looking at the picture of the the strap, is a nice looking strap but dunno, it looks a bit too thin...
It's not finished yet. There's more to add to the backing from what he told me. Should end up being 3.5 mm thick at least.
That strap design, in black with the right thickness, curved ends and cut to fit the Omega deployant clasp would be a match for my Speedy!
One word: "custom". Did you see his other rally straps? Click on the link in the first post. I plan on doing updates as warranted in this thread.
