I was unaware that Rolex was a publicly traded company.
It's not...the company is in a privately held trust. Because of that, they don't have to answer to shareholders like Omega does. I think that's one of the key differences between the two brands...

You do understand that privately owned companies can have shareholders, right?

I always wonder how you could purchase shares in a private company. They must release shares to specific groups of people (probably people with big money)...

They can sell shares to other investors, without offering shares publicly. Selling shares this way is still private funding, so not publicly traded.

Yep...I understand all of that, but I don't think I have enough capital for a private company to sell me their stock! 😀 I'm just trying to fund my next Omega!

That being said, it seems Omega and Rolex is always the comparison, but it always ends up with "Rolex is a status symbol, and Omega is for true watch people." I don't fall in either camp...I feel that both companies have their own merits. I certainly like the way certain Rolex pieces sit on my wrist compared to Omegas...

It doesn't matter how we call them. Stakeholders, shareholders, owners etc.
I think as long as the company makes money they are happy.
